RemydeHaviland | 11-06-2009 10:29 AM | DH had significant sleep issues, not specifically diagnosed as apnea but the following were his symptoms: he would wake up frequently, excessive snoring and would stop breathing during sleep and would always wake up tired. For him, we ultimately found that allergies were a root cause. Its a long story, but he did several things:
1) Limited his use of Claritin. He has allergies however he severely cut back his Claritin dosage, only taking when absolutely necessary and began using an OTC saline nasil spray 2-3x per day to increase moisture
2) Eliminated red peppers from his diet. This included consumption of actual peppers as well as any spices containing red pepper (IE blackening seasoning, etc.)
3) Minimized his chocolate consumption (which was not excessive to begin with, but we both really like dark chocolate)
Everyone is, obviously different, but it was quite surprising the difference these changes made. His sleep is significantly better with minimal interruption. And, when he takes too much Claritin, or eats peppers it is amazing how quickly his sleep patterns are affected....
Anyhow, some food for thought.... perhaps some exploration of allergens may be helpful for you as well |
