Almost 3 weeks of coughing Anyone know? I know, I know, I SHOULD just go to a doctor but generally speaking EVERY time I've gone to the doc for a cough, they can't do much of anything and it goes away on it's own. For almost 3 weeks now, I've had this cough that I'm thinking MAY be allergy related. I know the ragweed around here is bad lately and I've had a few issues w/ allergies in the past. My dad has them bad. I have NO other symptoms. It's just a cough. I have a tickle in my throat at times, feels like dust in my throat so I have to make myself cough basically. I don't really have that much mucus or anything, maybe a little bit heaviness in my chest, no fever, my throat doesn't even hurt. The first week I was losing sleep over this cough, but this past week and a half I've actually been getting to sleep perfectly fine. It's just certain time periods during the day where I'll have a coughing spree. It's just so annoying. Any advice on what I can do/take? I will be heading to the Doc if it's still keeping it up all next week but for now... any home remedies, medicine, etc? I was taking these over the counter Robitussin cough suppressant pills that didn't seem to do much. I also took Tylenol Cold and Cough for a bit. I've been drinking a ton of water. Thanks! |
My mom had this i guess- tickle at the back of her throat- coughed a LOT- turns out it was a side effect from a med she was on- if you are taking anything- try looking up the side effects online. |
Thx for the tip but unfortunately, I'm not on any medication right now. :( |
try gargling with salt and water, and if that doesn't help (do not go outdoors immediately after gargling with something warm), try something like Listerine. At work or at school, have some mint candies and keep one in your mouth. THAT really helps. Oh, yes, lozenges are great, or try a teaspoon of honey |
You dont have a whoop to it do ya? I had a normal cough and then all the sudden whooping cough. |
PLEAAAAASE go to the Dr!!! I had a cough for 3 weeks as well, and I thought it was allergies. So I was taking Benedryl to avoid coughing at night and it wasn't helping at all. I finally went to the doctor, and found out I have pneumonia. So now on bedrest for a few weeks cause it isn't responding to antibiotics. :( |
They say if you have a persistent cough for more than 10 days you should go to the dr. But like you said, there is a lot of ragweed and stuff around these parts. Since you are not having a productive cough (mucus) then it might just be allergies. But to put your mind at ease, maybe a dr visit is the best thing. I went a few months ago because I thought I had another bout of bronchitis and she said it wasn't and prescribed over the counter mucinex cd and delsym. The delsym does numbers on me big time! I get dizzy and woozy from it. I feel like I am on a cloud. So be careful if you decide to do over the counter stuff as some have some side effects. |
Go to the Dr. My daughter & husband had a cough for about 2 weeks. Both got an antibiotic. The cough was gone about 3 days later. |

Seriously though.. You should go to the Dr. |
Could be bronchitis, if it's a dry cough!! YOu feel fine other than the cough? I went to the docs years ago after I had a cold and it went away but the cough stayed for weeks, so I went and although I felt fine I had a cough and turns out it was bronchitis. Just a 10 day antibiotic cleared it up. |
