Finders keepers not this time My husband had a early morning Dr appointment last monday in our old home town, after that we went to the bank drive thru window he took the plastic box out and opened it up for me and there was something plastic rolled up in the box, he said what is that i said maybe they are giving raincoats or hats today cause it was pouring down rain, i took it out and put my deposit in the box and sent it on then i unrolled my present thinking how thoughtful to be giving raincoats or whatever on such a messy day. WOW !! there was a stack of money that you wouldn't believe, right away i saw that it was a deposit from the Dollar general store, i rolled it back up and as soon as my reciept came back we drove to the front of the bank and i hand delivered my present back to them, they ask where i got it ,it seems whoever left it there didn't know it was suppose to go in the night deposit, the bank thanked me for returning it. I bet if it was reported to the store somebody got fired. |
I do bet you were shocked when you found that deposit in the tube. Thankfully you are an honest person. Truthfully, the bank needs to let the store know because that same person could make the same mistake again and the next person that finds the deposit might not be so honest. Of course with all the cameras around the banks I bet if someone was dishonest and tried to keep the money they would have been caught anyway. |
OMG:eek: I'm the head teller in one of the larger banks in my town. We have had crazy stuff happen before, but nothing like this. You are to be commended on your honesty. I have found over the years there are more honest people out there than most would think. I can't figure for the life of me how someone could mistake the drive-thru (i'm assuming tube) for the night depository. We have our local Dollar General Store business accounts and I am sure if their audit dept finds out someone will really be in trouble. We have to report to them if the deposits are off even by a penny. But even if someone dishonest got the money and kept it surveillance cameras would have caught them.:bravo: to you for your honesty. |
You know a few people that know about this have said to me i'm not so sure i would have gave it back i said how could i not it wasn't mine. I am sure there was a few thousand dollars there, sure it would have been nice but it would have stealing to me. |
Yay, it's always wonderful to hear about someone returning money, because it's the right thing to do, not just because they want a reward. Lot of people will think you're dumb for returning the money, but I think we are always being tempted to be dishonest, and it's great you passed such a hard test! I agree, the dollar store should be informed, otherwise, it could happen again, and next person who finds it might not be so honest. |

GOOD FOR YOU!!! I have often said- i see a lot of things i's like to have- but never have seen anything I wanted to steal!!! Morals are not A THING OF THE PAST!!! Just more rare! |
Hats off to you!!!! Nothing worse than a thief and a liar. Too bad the store didnt know, you deserve to be commended.......... |
Too bad you couldn't take it home, roll around in it and then take it back. Feel rich for 10 mins or so LOL |
