For those who live in Atlanta, Georgia...I have some questions. We will be heading home soon and I have 2 questions: 1. We've seen the flooding on the weather channel. Has it affected 75 or the down town area? 2. This may sound silly but...what is the best time to drive through Atlanta? We always drive right through town...we never take the bypass...I Know there has to be a 'quiet' time to drive through town. By the way...you guys have one of my favorite, beautiful cities at night time...the downtown area is amazing when it's all lit up. |
Driving ANYWHERE near Altlanta during typical AM/PM rush hours is a nightmare! During mid day and around the 7 PM hours, the interstates can get a bit busy, but the traffic still flows pretty fast. (Def NOT the case here in B'ham.) Several friends in ATL said most of the flooding is on the western edge of the city and that I-20 and 285 are the ones that have been closing on and off. I know that Six Flags is flooded right now (and that's on the eastern side just outside of downtown). Any particular section of the city you are wondering about...I can always call and ask them specifics for you? They live in downtown metro ATL... |
Thank you Misty. We're going right through town on I75 heading north...not taking the bypass. A friend of ours just took that route and he said it was o.k. but I think he went through before it really flooded. I think Tennessee got flooded too. We saw Six Flags on the news...I wouldn't ride that roller coaster for a while! |
There was a blockage in some drains on the connector (75/85), but it has since been resolved. I don't think there are any major issues on 75 right now. Traffic is a nightmare, especially during rush hour 6-9 am and 4-7 pm (even starting at 3 on Friday afternoons). If I was able to plan it out, I would try to aim for early afternoon (1-3) or late morning (10-12). It does tend to slow down around the lunch hour too, but nothing like rush hour. Hope that helps! |

Good luck w/ your journey. (And yes, it is very sad to see the Scream Machine sitting in all that murky water!) |
Misty, how is your situation? |
