Marmite Hi can anyone tell me if Marmite is sold in the US and if so is it still called Marmite or does it have a different name. Thanks |
Hummm...I'm not sure but I think it is sold in specialty stores. I'll have to ask my dad on that one (he's from England, but he is actually there now visiting his parents) He would know the answer to that. I'm pretty sure that is still called marmite here in the US. Are you living in the US and looking to buy some? I know in NYC there is this wonderful little shop that sells all this food from England. Last time I was there I stocked up on smarties, and pork pies and sausage rolls! I was very good and since they import all of their ingredients from England. It tasted exactly like the ones from England. So.....If you are in NYC you could get it there... Hannah |
What is a marmite? |
you can get Marmite at a lot of places in NYC, British specialty stores...there is a place in the Village called Keswick and you can find all the comforts of home! |
What is it? |
It's like a beef based spread, very salty, and you put it on toast. Anyone who grew up in England remembers it from childhood. |
Is this some kind of food? |

Yes, it looks like thick, black honey. It is a savory spread. Your parents usually give it to you on toast as a snack after school, well at least mine did. I love it, but I find that a lot of Americans who have never had it before adulthood find it revolting! |

It's not beef based spread, it's vegetarian spread, your thinking of bovril. |
