Any fellow knitters/crocheters? I was just curious. I want my next project to be a dog sweater and have been checking online patterns. I am wrapping up a crochet'ed afghan and I'm so ready to get this mailed off and start a project for my doggies :) |
When I was young I used to crochet. I stopped for so long I've forgotten. :( Most recently I've been knitting, last year I went knitting crazy! Except the only things I could actually knit were plain scarves and hats! Living in Florida there really are only so many scarves and knit hats one needs or can gift. So I've mostly stopped since much else is beyond my abilities! (Though I find knitting something basic is very relaxing!) But my Mom is amazing!! And has knit 1 afghan and crocheted another afghan for me! |
I still crochet, cant remember how to knit... |
I do both. I prefer knitting though, for me it's faster. I like knitting for wearable stuff, and crochet for toys and amigurumi (sp?) since crochet is more sturdy and doesn't stretch as much. |
I started knitting dishcloths. Many of my friends prefer those in cotton than the ones you buy at the store especially for the kitchen. I have a dress in progress and an afghan for a wedding gift someone hired me to do. NEVER again LOL I like doing them for gifts and I really want to do something for myself. |
dog sweater Oh Hello! I'm so glad to see you on here. I knit all the time. I probably have at least 5 projects going and that doesn't count the sewing I need to finish. Have you found a sweater pattern for your dog. If you do a web search for free knitting patterns you will probably find one. Unless you are knitting for a Great Dane, you will have a sweater done in no time at all. Even easier than socks. Please take some photos of your finished project. I knit a sweater for my Yorkie. He was not at all appreciative. Have a totally terrific day!:animal36 |
I wish I could! My sister-n-law took knitting classes this year and now knits hats for the homeless, which I think is great! It would be awesome to be able to knit clothes for my doggies too!! |
I admit it, I knit doggie sweaters 1 Attachment(s) Knitting dog sweaters are quick and inexpensive. Here's a picture of my Yorkipoo modeling one of them - he would have more but I had to stop to make Christmas presents. |

I did knit a sweater for maggie may this year but it is just a basic, basic sweater. I followed another sweater as best I could for the pattern. It's not bad for a first attempt but I want to get it down as I want to start making more. they don't take much time at all! I think her sweater took me 2 -3 nights (?). |
Linky Hello to all crafty pet owners. I wanted to share a great site with you. Christmas is coming so get busy with those hooks and needles. Knitting Pattern Central - Free Pet Knitting Pattern Link Directory I'm knitting a retro sweater for the skin daughter. Laura |
Thanks, Laura for reminding me of that site. If you're a knitter I'm sure you know about Ravelry.com? There are free doggie patterns there too. |
knitting I can only knit and crochet a quilt. but my mother does, so I went on ebay and got some patterns for her to make me some. I wish I could. |
YAY I'm glad I found you guys. Have you all joined ravelry.com It's a great site and there are Yorkie Groups on there :) |
2 Attachment(s) This is one of the sweaters I made for Uni. It's a pirate skull. :D |
THAT is adorable :) |
Thanks! I keep making the same one over and over. It's my bf's favorite out of all the ones I've made. But that design is a "B"! |
I crochet. I tried knitting but couldn't get the hang of holding the 2 needles correctly. Emmy usually tests out my projects by laying on it when I put it down on the sofa. |
I used to crochet all the time. I could not sit and watch TV without something to do with my hands, so I made afghan after afghan. The pups chewed holes in most of them over the years so I have only a couple left that I put away. I used to crochet something from the monthly magazines all the time, toys, lots of stuffed animals, kleenex box covers, vests, scarfs, seasonal decorations, you name it and I crocheted it. But eventually arthritis in my hands slowed me down. I have an afghan in 2 years-progress now and it took til my grandson was a year old before his baby blanket was finished. I can still hang in there for the time to complete a puppy gruffle ball though! :D |
I just signed up for knitting lessons at Joanne's, its something I always wanted to learn. My first lesson is in October. I am going to take sewing lessons in 2010, that is one of my goals for next year. |
Barnes and Nobles has a kit for making doggie sweaters and beds. It has about 12 patterns in it. :) |
I learned how to knit from the free videos on knittinghelp.com they were GREAT. I am so visual, so I had to watch her and she also shows you other techniques that are common in many patterns. I'm so sick of this afghan I'm doing. I really cannot wait to start knitting again. I like to go back and forth to keep from getting bored. |
I think knitting and crochet you can learn from books and vids. My gam gam taught me to knit (incorrectly I now know) when I was a kid. But I picked it up again a few years ago from books, and decided to try crochet as well. But sewing, and patternmaking, it takes years of schooling to do it right. I am currently teaching myself millinery (hatmaking). I think I know enough to do it the old school way. |
I tried teaching myself and was a great failure, it seems I have all these fingers that get in the way. It surprises me because I am usually a hands on learner. I would be happy to just start and finish one project. |
Good to see so many interested in knitting. My daughter has Stitch n Bitch night at her house once a week. We are all at different levels of know-how and some just come to learn. If you can get in a group, you will find that knitters are very friendly and encouraging. If they laugh at your knitting, it is only because they have done something similar themselves! I'm working on a simple dog sweater and will take pictures when it is finished. Ravelry is great. Knittinghelp has videos on their website showing both English (throwing) and Continental styles of knitting. I learn lots of neat stuff watching Knitty Gritty. Does anyone have a favorite pattern for beginners? I made my dog a winter scarf that is very easy and cute. It matches mine!!!:) |
I'm a Ravelry addict! My username is belindapurls if you want to "friend" me. I hate that Knitty Gritty went off the air but the host of the show is on Ravelry. While on Ravelry you can do a search for free dog sweater patterns with little difficulty. Basically if you can knit a tube and bind-off you've made a sweater. But be forewarned: Doggie sweaters are addictive! |
I'm Deenie on raverly, too. I worked on this afghan for the WHOLE weekend and I think I just need a tad bit more time and it will be done! YAY me. |
That's great! I've been planning on making an afghan but every time I start someone has a baby, or a birthday and I have to put it aside. Please post pics when you're done. |

I crochet. I can't knit, so I have a bunch of knitting looms that I can make anything on them that can be knitted. I love my looms. I have about 10 projects going at any given time. I haven't made any dog sweaters, but could if I ever got around to it. |
I think the Gemini in me keeps me from finishing too many projects LMAO I will take a picture tonight of my afghan in progress. I brought it to work yesterday and got so many compliments. |
