H1N1 (swine flu) Does anyone know if they are going to be offering the vaccine to babies? I have a 15 month old granddaughter and getting a little nervous. |
I have 5 grandchildren and it's very scary this swine flu. However, I don't trust the vaccine either. It's too new and not been tested long enough IMO. I'm not one to suggest injecting these things into the kids. I don't get the flu shot myself. Hope you all stay healthy. |

I have a soon to be 4 year old and a 6 year old and I can't decide whether to get the vaccine or not. When both my kids were smaller, they did get the flu shot once. They both got really sick afterward for a few days...I just get so nervous because my 6 year old is in school now and I worry about what illnesses he may get from other children. Since the H1N1 came out, we all wash our hands constantly and I explain to them how important it is to cover your mouth and nose when they cough or sneeze. I am also a HUGE fan of the Clorox wipes. When we go to the store, I wipe the carts down with the wipes and spray Lysol on them as well. You can never be too careful! I really need to get more info on the vaccine before I decide..Everyone stay healthy and happy!!! |
Personally I would never even consider getting this shot nor would I give it to my children...I have told all my family not to get this shot....It was never tested, and it was "fast tracked" to the public. The manufacturer has immunity from any lawsuits if this vaccine turns out to have terrible side effect, the side effect that are not known at this time.... This is a very mild strain of flue, IF a person where to get it the vast majority will have no problems and it passes in about 4-5 days. As with every flu season there will be deaths, this season is no different than all the past ones....The ingredients alone in this vaccine would terrify me...They put squalene and thimerosol in this vaccine..... No decision to make here, my granddaughter tested positive for Type A flu today, which is the Swine flu - she's not too sick, and she started on tamiflu so she should be fine in a few days. |
I absolutely do NOT plan on getting this shot. I know 3 people - of different ages - who've had the swine flu, and they've all said it was like the worst cold you can imagine. That's it. The media has made it out to be 10X worse than it is. I'm not saying that it's not incredibly SUCKY and horrible to have it, but everyone who comes into contact with it is NOT going to die, and likely they're only going to miss a few days of school/work. I read an article that said that pregnant women were getting the shot. That is a risk I definitely would *not* be willing to take. I feel like this vaccine moved through the system entirely too quickly to be worth the risk. |
It is so good to hear all of you who are against getting flu shots. They try so hard to scare everyone into getting their vaccines. Just by naming the flu "Swine Flu" makes it soun more ominous. (Remember how scary the UniBomber sounded compared to calling him a nut case?) The Swine Flu is just the flu. We get it, we get over it, and we are stronger. |
Thanks for the responses everyone! I am not a big fan on vaccines either but, I bartend, there are alot of people and alot of handling money...which is the worst! People don't stay home when they are sick. I did get a flu shot last year and didn't have any side effects...THANK GOD! And I do agree with you...they have blown this out of proportion...People die from the flu every year. I just worry because I have a 15 month old granddaughter and I worry that she will get sick. I most likely will be getting the flu shot again this year but not sure about the H1N1. |
I heard here in Louisiana, the swine flu is affecting the older teens to middle age. The elderly and younger group are not as affected. I too have a granddaughter 7 months old. I think I will get her the flu shot, but not swine flu. They say if you have any symptons, don't wait, get to the doctor and it can be taken care of! |
Megan, it's good to see a young person is not being manipulated by the media to get this vaccine. It's ridiculous to get a shot for something as mild as this flu. Swine flu is said to be milder than the regular flu. It's like getting a vaccine for diarrhea, but them again I've read there's a vaccine in the works for that also....:( There are no studies to indicate that flu shots are of any value for kids. A developing child's brain is more susceptible to the toxins in the vaccine. The exposure to all the toxins are cumulative, so when one piles on vaccine after vaccine it's a powerful mix of chemicals assaulting their developing brain. The preservatives in the vaccine is what people should be worried about, as in: formaldehyde, aluminum, thimerosal, etc. I find it ridiculous that pregnant women and children are told to restrict their consumption of fish because of the dangers of mercury and other toxins but these same type of chemicals are all right injected into their blood stream.....go figure.... |
I seen this morning on the news that they are only going to have so many doses to give, Children, elderly and people with certain conditions will come first. This will be our worse flu season ever ,,,scary, very scary :( I have grandbabies to and my 3yr old just started pre school on monday. |
I have the swineflu now  I just have headache, cough and something like that, just like with the other flu's. Im 15 years now, im very healthy teenager, thats the reason that its just like another flu to me. Healthy poeple dont die of this, this is only dangerous for people that are sick before (with diabetes, some disease or something). |
i would teach kids good hand washing and use hand sanitizer. |

All they keep repeating over and over is how it's spreading and schools are closing, which is true to some extent, but masses of people are not dying.........Typical of the media to just parrot what the others say..... |
