Diaper Cake 1 Attachment(s) So I went to my boyfriend's sister's baby shower this weekend. I made a diaper cake...and it was a total hit! I am considering maybe selling them online? I need to think it through because I would need a website and clients haha. But I just wanted to show a picture of the cake. Does anyone think there is a business to be made from these? |
It's really Pretty! Love it!! I would only be concerned about shippng costs to customers?? |
I am just not sure because there are instructions all over online to make them. I have seen them at, at least half of the baby showers I have been to. Don't want to deter you, but I would only try it on a very limited basis before sinking much money in. Some might go ahead and buy one, but usually someone close to the mom-to-be wants to make them. Hope I am not being too much of a downer. I was in the craft business for years and found that to make any money, you need to come up with a product that is not easily duplicated by others. |
You can also make wedding cakes. Same idea but only use white hand towels. |
Great job!!! |
That is a cute idea. You could make one for a puppy shower with pee pads!!! |
:lol tearsThat's a good idea too. Could decorate it with little toys . Love it. |
If you want my honest opinion, no. Due to shipping , time , supplies, you would have to charge quite a bit for this. Plus there are instructions like someone said. Womans World has the easiest of ones I have found. Ive made several diaper cakes but I put toys and things like that one mine. I also make towel cakes plus flower baskets made of onesies. But I only do them for people around here and normally do not charge for them since I am doing it for a friend as long as they pay for the stuff. I know there is a woman that tries to put them on ebay and people are always complaining about the shipping. You did a great job, very nice. |
that's a really great idea! i've never seen or heard of those and i love it, how cute...i don't have a clue about selling them, but it's really neato |
VERY pretty!! I've made a pee pad cake for a puppy too. It was adorable :) |
diaper cakes I love your diaper cake. I have made them for both my daughters showers. It is true that there are instructions everywhere on the web for making them. One place I did see selling them was a local craft fairs or shows. Many older people go to these and they don't get into making things as much. The girl who was selling hers sold 10 and took orders for 3 more. Something to think about. Good luck |
What a cute idea! I wish you had posted this about 6 months ago...a friend's son and his wife had their first child. That would have been an awsome gift. |
I LOVE it! This is the first time I have ever seen anything like this done. And I think its a wonderful idea.:thumbup::thumbup: |
Cute Very nice job!! Maybe call it Have your diaper and eat it too...lol Just kidding.:D |
If I was hosting a shower, I would pay for a pre-made KIT to create a diaper cake. That would cut down on the shipping costs, as you could probably pack it in the $12 flat rate. I say that because I was going to make one for my friend, BUT in order to get a decent price on diapers you have to buy 200 diapers at Costco. I tried to buy 20 at the grocery store and it was like $14. What about a kit? Let people add their own "extras" and just send the basics - the diapers, rubber bands, plates and a "pattern" with design ideas and instructions. I would check what is already on etsy. It's been my experience as a buyer on etsy that the best sellers on etsy are actually selling to other etsy/DIYers. Patterns, supplies, etc. I am perfectly capable of rolling diapers and creating my own cake, but I'm not buying a super-duper case diapers to achieve it (plus, don't they use multiple sizes?) If you think about that angle you might have something. I'm not buying someone's $150 diaper cake that I can make for $50 (Someone might if they have no artistic talent, and that's fine!). But I WOULD pay $50 for all the supplies and just add my own design extras and pacifiers or whatever. I just don't know if buying diapers in bulk and re-selling them has enough of a profit :D |
