I am a apple lover here too! My sickness started out with a touch, then it progressed to a 24" imac. The sickness progressed even further with another imac (for the family) and a macbook for me. It is NOT a pro. Mine is aluminum. I just got an iphone too. I have a severe case of apple-itis

Mac all the way, baby! I will never own another windows pc again. Once you mac, you don't go back. lol

My kids just switched schools this year. They are now doing a cyber charter school at home. The school uses macbooks (the white ones) so between the 2 school issued macbooks and the ones we own, I am ashamed to say there are 5 macs in my house. I LOVE IT! lol

Apple products are just plain good quality. They just work!

I forgot to mention that I had absolutely no trouble making the conversion from an avid pc user for many years to learning the mac.

Question -- does Apple have anyone available that will transfer all my files (my music from iTunes, my photos etc) onto my new mac from my pc?? I didn't know if this was possible or an extra charge etc.

You need to put all the files you want transferred in one folder on your old computer's desktop. Then when you buy a Mac, bring your old computer into the Apple Store that day, and tell them. They will help you fill out a form, and you will leave your old computer there for them. Then when you later go back to pick up your Mac and your old computer, all the files will be transferred. Super easy. And free!

I'm okay with Windows XP, but will go iMac to avoid Vista. Plus the iMac looks really good, but is pricey. My DW didn't want me to spend $2500 for a double wall oven. What's she going to say when a bring home a $2000 computer?

Windows 7 is now the new OS for PCs. I've heard good things about it so far. Windows 7 is being called by many "the good Windows Vista."

I still love Macs but thought you should know.

Oh, and for those who are having difficulties switching from PC to Mac, here's a site to help you out: Switching To Mac

I use a Mac Mini and wouldn't want to go back to a PC.
They are just too slow and I hate having to run antivirus programs.
It's a waste of time. :)

I still use an HP laptop and really would rather have a Macbook.

Thanks for the info!

Seems "once you go Mac, you never go back!"

I will be saving up some extra money for the next month in hopes of getting one soon. :D

Do you guys think I should save up a little bit extra for the Macbook Pro or just get the regular macbook that's $999 right now? I think I can save $75 or something being a college student. Is the Pro really worth it??

Yes. Unless you want to take it back once a year to get the plastic case replaced. The guts are fine, the plastic case cracks too easily. We have 2 of them and apple will replace them for free, but save yourself the headache. The specs are better on the MBPs so you're paying for more than the metal case.

Not all macbooks are white plastic. I have a 13' aluminum macbook and it is not a PRO. Love it!

It was enough macbook for me.

They changed this back in June, so now all the aluminum ones are MBP's, even the 13" That's sort of why people think they are going to come out with a smaller/cheaper netbook or tablet or something to fill out the 'macbook' line. I was hoping for a mini macbook air or something like that :) Of course, no one knows with Apple...

There are always refurbished ones on Apple's website, I'm not sure how much of a discount you would get over a student discount on a new one though.

The new product announcement is today. 9/9/09 Rumors are everything from The Beatles on iTunes to a Tablet/Netbook, although it's probably just new iPods...

The thing about Macs is that there are features built in that make so much sense, and once you get used to them, it's hard to go back.

I have a macbook pro ~ never go back. Well worth the money!

Wow, I see that now. I am glad I got mine when I did! My kids have the white ones for school.

As a late birthday gift, I got a $200 gift card to Apple from my Uncle. :)

Yay! I'm so impatient though and I'd LOVE to get a Macbook like, ASAP. lol.
Thing is, me getting one now, I'm going to have to be real tight with my
money for the next month or so, which is hard for me. But I'm thinking it
will be worth it. I've wanted one for sooo long. I might just be "irresponsible"
and "waste" all my money on a Macbook Pro, LOL. Of course, I know it won't
really be a waste.

It would be a lot cheaper for me to just get the regular Macbook. With my college
discount and my gift card, it'd be $749 to get the regular Macbook. Also, with discount and card, it'd be $900 to get the Macbook Pro. I'm just debating on
whether it's worth it, I think in the long run it may be better to just go Pro :)

I know either one would serve you well, but if you can possibly go for the MB Pro, do it cause for the small extra amount of $$, you will be getting a top of the line product that will probably serve you better and longer, and will also have higher resale value if you ever go to sell it and get something else.

Lioncross4 09-12-2009 11:59 PM

GO FOR THE PRO! Seriously don't waste your time on the other one. I do a lot of photoshop and design and you will need the pro to keep up---but, in the end...........I'm back on my hp! Decided I loved it better and can run faster and better on it. Oh well---guess I'm the odd dog--that went back!

Ivy Lucille 09-13-2009 03:19 AM

I don't feel you will be wasting your time on either one. HOWEVER, my macbook is an aluminum one and apparently they don't offer that now in the non-pro. My kids have school-issued white ones and I don't care for the feel of them as much as mine. I am also not a college student and so mine is quite efficient for me. If I were you, being a college student, I would hang on until you can get the pro. I say that because your gonna have it a long time. I know it's hard to wait. I waited ions for my iphone but I finally have it and it was sooooooooooo worth the wait!!! :D

Be Strong!

Britster 09-13-2009 06:52 AM

Alright guys - I think I'm gonna just go for the Pro.

Good choice, I know you won't be sorry. Once you get your hands on each of them, the quality difference even in the "feel" is so worth going Pro. Ahh and think of the status aspect, more people are going to be so jealous over the Pro:D

You won't regret it for the small price difference. I just got the Pro about a month ago and I'm glad I did. At first I was going to get the MacBook but after weighing the differences went for the Pro instead. The Apple salesperson can explain the upgrades in the Pro and once they do it will confirm your choice. Just a few are an upgraded screen, SD card slot, lit keyboard not to mention I prefer the aluminum and the black keys. It is so much easier to keep clean than the white.

Ivy Lucille 09-13-2009 11:12 AM

my aluminum macbook as the lighted keyboard---that is a definite good thing! Love it!

sdnylz 09-14-2009 12:18 PM

I've nevr owned a Mac but I want one. I got a taste of their products because I have the Iphone and I absolutely love it!

question for Mac users: what do you think about the MacAir? that thing is so irresistible I want one!

suzieqnova 09-14-2009 12:54 PM

I love my mac :) To tell you the truth macs are the only computer you will ever see in our house. We even have the mac tv. LOL! Ok, my hubby is a Senior Macintosh Systems Administator (fancy wording for mac addict) which basically means we are biased.

But, even the school district I work for uses macs so I can't be that biased. I don't go a day without using sometype of mac product in my life. Between the iphone, imac and ipods. You can just say I'm isane. LOL!

bildio 09-14-2009 01:57 PM

I got an iPhone a couple of months ago.

Friday, I got the iMac with the 24" display. It's awesome.

I've weaned myself off the PC. No going back.
