Unemployment rework requirement?? My mom recently resigned from her job of 28 years to take care of her elderly mother. My grandma lives almost 80 miles from my moms work, so there was no getting around it. Before my mom resigned, she looked into it to make sure she could get unemployment until she could find something close by my grandmas, and was told that she could. Well she got a letter today from the unemployment office saying that there is a $4,334 rework requirement? What does this mean? That she cannot get unemployment until she has a job? That makes no sense. None of us have ever received unemployment, so we have no idea what it means or what to do. Anyone have any idea? |
So she did begin receiving unemployment? Usually a rework requirement means someone initially received benefits and then was later either A)disqualified or B)the payment amount was miscalculated. In either case...you must re-pay the funds. Many people don't know how unemployment benefits are funded. An employer pays a tax quarterly based on their payroll. If benefits are awarded...this percentage increases. Employers are allowed to dispute an unemployment claim and that may be what's happened in this case. She needs to call your state unemployment office and inquire. |

She has never collected unemployment before, so this is why we are confused. I will check out that site, thank you! |
Also, she has not collected anything yet since she filed for it. She just filed a couple of weeks ago and got that letter today. |
Hmmm....I don't know what that means. I didn't even know that you could collect it if you resigned from your job. I know you can't do that here, but you can apply for FEMLA benefits in the event that an immediate family member requires your longterm care. I dunno. Let us know what you can find out, I'd be interested to know. |

It describes rework. http://www.michigan.gov/documents/ui...g1_90416_7.pdf My interpretation is that since she quit, & e.g., wasn't laid off, she doesn't qualify for unemployment. However, if she gets a job & earns $4,334, she can qualify. This doesn't make sense to me, because if she works how can she get unemployment. Is the a Catch 22? |
