Has anyone gone through this?
 

I have to have bilateral myringotomy (getting tubes in your ears.) Not sure if it's spelled right? I am so afraid. Just the thought of anything going in my ears makes me nauseous. I have had chronic ear infections (in both ears) for about 5 yrs, and have been using drops and antibotics with short term relief. They finally said enough is enough. I have to go to an ENT on Fri. If anyone has gone through this I would really like to know how it went. Thanks!

I have a tube in my right ear. They placed it under anesthesia (it only took a couple minutes) and just placed some cotton in it. Afterward I just had to put drops in a couple times a day for about a week. It has been in there for a while now (about 2 years) and the only time I even remember it's there is when my ENT checks it. I haven't had any infections or pain with the tube in. Good luck

when I was little they didnt have the tubes, had 4 operations on ears, when I was 12 they put the tubes in. Besides having scar tissue from so many surgeries, I havent had many problems since. My son also had the tubes. Wonderful invention....its worth it.

My Mom and both of my sons had tubes put in their ears. It really is no big deal. You won't feel a thing and it will be so much better after you will be glad you did it.

I had tubes in my ears five (yes, 5) times during my childhood!!! In "the olden days", this was an inpatient procedures with at lest an overnight stay. The tubes stayed in for 6 weeks and were then taken out in the ENT's office with a hemastat - didn't hurt, just a very strange feeling!!!!!

My son had them twice. The first time when he was 3, outpatient surgery and the tubes fell out on their own in about a year. He literally went from a least one ear infection a month, to only having two the entire next year.

He also had a ton of allergies, but our pedicatrician didn't believe in allergy testing until age 5, feeling it was too traumatic for very young kids. He started having ear infections regularly again once the tubes came out, and we took him to a pediatric allergy specialist for testing. He had his 2nd ear tube surgery and the ENT came out and told us he had horribly scarred ear canals and he did not expect the tubes to make any difference and expected long term hearing defects. He started allergy shots the next week. At his 6 week post-op ENT visit, the Dr. could not believe we had brought the same child to see him as the allergy shots were working such wonders that his ears were completely clear - even of scarring!!!!!!
