Plantar Fasciitis Relief I hoping someone can help. I have developed Plantar Fasciitis in both feet. The right being worse than the left. I am in so much pain, that I can't stand it anymore. It used to hurt when I got up in the morning or after sitting watching TV for a hour or so, but how the last few days, it hurts my right foot almost all the time. It hurt when I try to sleep too. We are self employed and have really crappy insurance...with a 5000.00 deductable each. Has anyone had this and what did you do for it other than the excercises? I have tried almost everything that I can find on the internet for it for months now and I'm not getting any better, just worse. I've been sitting here in tears almost all night and could use some suggestions. Thanks....... |
My daughter had to get orthotics for her shoes - and it took a couple pair to get the right ones unfortunately. Then, she had to wear them at all times, even to get up to go to the bathroom at night - your feet should never touch the floor without being in shoes with the orthotics. She got them at a shoe store that advertized it could cure plantar fascitis. The orthotics the MD gave her did not work. It took about 3 months of constant wearing them to get it under control. Now, she doesn't have to wear them all the time, but does have to wear shoes with very good arch supports. Good luck, it is very painful. I had it years ago, but got over it by wearing tennis shoes with good arch supports all the time for a couple months. |
i have the same problems... my left being worse. Its amazing how fast my body seems to be falling apart. The extra weight I've put on since becoming hypothyroid isn't helping either. I'm sorry your in so much pain... I feel your pain! |
I had it bad and was ready to go to a podiatrist. I would wake in the morning and have to hold the walls to get down the hall they hurt so bad. Even sitting in a chair for a few minutes would leave me crippled when I would go to get up. I tried freezing a water bottle and roling it under my feet and the stretches, even specially fitted shoes that were supposed to help. These things maybe helped a little but did not help enough. But around the same time I finally got diagnosed with a thyroid problem. I know this sounds crazy, but after I had it removed and got my thyroid hormones right, my feet stopped hurting. I wrote about this on a health site and many, many others said they had the exact same experience. Don't know if you have ever looked into thyroid problems or have any other symptoms that might point to it, but I had to mention it. Many people have Plantar Faciitis without a thyroid problem so yours may not be related at all. I just thought I would mention my experience. |

Seriously, if you are not getting T3 and you still have PF -- you might want to ask your doc about getting either Cytomel (synthetic T3) or switching to a med like Armour Thyroid or Naturethroid (they are made of pig thyroid -- not appetizing but very effective!). |

If it is related to your thyroid, then you should see an endocrinologist that specializes in thyroid - not diabetes (what many endocrinologists specialize in). Someone above is correct, many/most general docs do not really understand thyroid and its implications. |

I also have this in my left foot. I apply ice and exercise it. If you pull your toes UP..like you are trying to bend them backwards and hold this should help the pain. My doctor told me to ice it and take advil for the pain, or any other type of inflammatory. I have a friend who is a mailman..he has is bad too. Unfortunately walking is what causes this, and he has to walk all day long. He had a cortisone shot and it did nothing. He said he wouldn't advise it but, that would be up to you. I have another male friend that had surgery..his foot is worse now than it was before and he walks on the side of his foot. I am going to a podiatrist at the end of the month to have arch supports made for my shoes. there is also a sock type thing that you can buy that you wear at night, It keeps your toes UP do it is stretching that tendon..Believe me...I know the pain you are in. hope you can find something that will work. |
Not sure where you live but go to www.goodfeetstore.com and look for a store near you. I was a store owner for 8 years. The arch supports have lifetime warranties (unless its changed) and they WORK! I can't go without them or my heels start killing me! Take a couple pairs of shoes and they will fit you! |

Thanks |
I am on synthroid but am looking at a new doctor that will prescribe Armour. Synthroid is doing no good for me. |
I have foot problems that seem to be getting worse the older I get. Im gonna get an arch support |
That is weird. I have hypothyroid, too and am on Armour Thyroid. Unfortunately I still have PF, but it is much better if I wear shoes all the time. Too much barefoot time and I have to start all over again and wear shoes for a few weeks. |
I have Plantar Fasciitis, there are a couple of things you can do before bed and in the morning, my dr suggested standing on the the edge of a stair putting just the toes and balls of you feet on the step ( like your walking up the stairs) drop your heels down, this streches out your foot, I do it about 10 times before bed.. another thing he told me to do is use an old tube sock or longer sock hold both ends with your hands , loop your foot again under your toes and strech your foot towards you pull hard toes towards you repeat this over and over again with both feet... the more you strech it out the better it will feel , also taking x strength tylenol will help before bed.. my dr also suggested New Balance sneakers, no flip flops and wear extra thick socks... give it a try.;) |
Thanks Thanks for the replies....I guess it sounds like I better get some insoles for my shoes..hopefully if I follow the suggestions, I can avoid going to the dr. again. Since all he said was to loose weight and stay off my feet as much as possible. Kinda hard to loose weight when you can't walk or do my workouts.... |
I had it for about 3 wks in my left foot. What helped was lots and lots of stretching (quadriceps, hamstrings, and calves) and of course I have sport orthotics (because I usually wear tennis shoes). This is the best calf stretch, it really made a difference. Wall Straight Leg Calf Stretch |
I used to have this problem a few years ago. I went to the podiatrist and he told me to do the exercises, which i did and didn't work. I also got orthotics and I'm still wearing them. Went back after a 2 months, he had gave me cortizone shots, only 3 'cause if they give you more is not good. btw, they hurt like you have no idea, but i was willing to go thru the pain. Didn't work! He sent me to physical therapy for a few months, didn't work! Finally, I had to have surgery which the doctor was trying to avoid, but sometimes depending on how bad he rpoblem is you have no option. I've had them since i was a kid, but got worse when i was in my early 20's. My feet are so grateful i had the surgery, because they don't hurt anymore! :D There is something more sophisticated now. They developed it after my surgery, but now there is this laser procedure that it's supposed ot help you heal faster and can be done at the doctors office. I'm always reading about that, because i'm always afraid that i'm going to get it again...:p |
