Flu shots I am curious how many of you get annual flu shots? I am 60 years old and have never had a flu shot and I bet it has been at least 20 years or longer since I had the flu. I was reading an article this morning from Dr. Mercola and it talks about the possible dangers of the new swine flu shot. It worries me so much that one day these companies that rush to develop these vaccinations will come up with something that will, in the long term, cause lots of harm to many people. LOL.....I was just reading this too.....I've never had a flue shot and I never will it just doesn't make sense to me to get a shot for something that is going to run it's course anyway.From everything I've read the "risk to benefit" of a flu shot just aren't worth the long term health problems associated with the shot..... |
I used to get a free jab from work when I was in local govt, always had it as it was free, I don't think it made much difference. Always got an annual cold, although I got swine flu last week and that sat me on my pants, I can truly say though that I have only had flu once before, most people say they have flu but just have a heavy cold. The yearly jab I used to get was just that, each year its a different jab made up for whatever strain is expected that year. I used to feel a bit iffy after the jab for a couple of days, I don't think I will have it again. |

I got it when I was in Nursing school - and a couple years after too. Now I haven't gotten it for years. I think for some elderly people, it can be important - but it can really depend. I was just hearing yesterday that they're finding that Swine Flu might be the most dangerous for pregnant women, in particular - isn't that awful!!!?? Bc what pregant woman wants to get a NEW flu shot? |

I don't know if it was here or somewhere else, but it was on our radio here - and this woman got the Swine Flu (pregnant), and she went into a coma and they were hoping the baby would stay in the womb for one more week, the baby died a week later, the Mom's lung collapsed and all kinds of things - she is just now coming out of the coma I guess, and is having a very tough time communicating, talking - and is having severe respiratory issues. SO SAD. :( |

I do get the flu shot every year because my husband has multiple chronic illness - heart, lung, kidney, diabetes - so he is extremely high risk and I can't afford to get the flu and give it to him. He gets the shot, so it is unlikely that I would, but I don't want to take any chances. Also, I teach at a University and am exposed to students everyday and they may have it. |
I get the flu shot every year and since I live with all people over 62 I can see it is good for our age since those that don't get it here seem to get the flu and I will get it this year. Now when it comes to the Swine Flu I won't be getting it since it will be rationed and my age group will not get it. I am concerned about my grand kids getting it though and don't know how to advise yet and neither do their parents. Tonight national news said it will take three injections and you are supposed to be safe two weeks after the second infection (I think they said 2 wks apart) Maybe they meant the third injection was for the yearly strain. Most injections for what ever reason have been safe but I don't like the way they had to rush to get this together. I really need to find out more. ABC news site should have more info on it since there was quite a bit tonight. There is something else starting in China. I guess we shouldn't worry just be prepared if we think it is best. |
It really isn't as bad as they are saying, my family and a few other uk members on YT have already had it. I think the govts are working people up and scaring them. There are antivirals ready for use such as Tamiflu and relenza if you are badly affected. We read up on the govt health sites to ease our fears. |
I usually get the flu shot each year after getting a horrible flu about 14 years ago and ending up in the hospital dehydrated and on IVs. I've been debating about getting the pneumonia and TDAP booster shot since I will be traveling. CDC also recommends the Hepatitis vaccine. I heard yesterday that the Swine flu vaccine won't be ready until late Nov/Dec. and that will be for the high risk patients, so I don't see getting it this year. It does scare me though a 19yr old guy and his 26 yr old sister who lived in Indiana and were being treated here in Cincinnati both died from it and they have no idea how they got it! |
We get it . One year we didn't and we got so so sick. It doesn't stop the Flu it just makes it less than full blown flu. My doctor advised me also that if one person gets the shot, the whole family should. I don't get it every year religiously , only when I remember :D |

I have gotten a flu shots every year for the past 20 or so years because I am a nurse and work with a high risk population. I see patients on all of our hospital units from intensive care to pediatrics. The only side effect I have ever encountered is a sore injection site. |
