Swine flu I am feeling better today, my temperature is back to normal and I am looking forward to a good nights sleep for the 1st time in 3 days. I didn't bother going to the centre for the Tamiflu, just beat it off with good old beechams powder. Not as nasty as I thought, especially with all the scaremongering in the papers. Definately not a nice fever though. |
Wow, that's scary. I'm glad you are feeling better. I'm afraid I would have been too scared to mess with it by myself.. |
I'm glad you're feelng better. That would be so scary. I hope your fever goes away too. |
After reading reports in the news it does sound frightening, although if you are normally fit it is no worse than a bad flu. I think all the frighteners on the news scare people, although people with other illnesses would be advised to use the Tamiflu, I just hate taking any drugs. Also they are saying in UK if you use Tamiflu for what I had and a more virulent strain appears later in the year, you can't take Tamiflu again. So hopefully if another nastier one comes around I catch it the Tamiflu might help later . I work all over the place as an electrician and am bumping into people with germs all the time, so it's an occupational hazard for me catching nasties like this. |
Wow, that's great to hear you've managed to fight it off. Positive outcomes like yours is very comforting to read about. |
Yuck, flu is never fun! Glad you are feeling better. What is Tamiflu? |
I'm glad to hear you're feeling better! I don't know anyone that's had it yet, but there have been two confirmed cases at my daughters nursery, and half of my mum's office are off with it:( Some have taken Tamiflu and some haven't - but all have recovered well......I think unless you have underlying health risks it's nothing to get too worried about. My sister kept my neice off school when it was confirmed there because she's had pneumonia in the past and she was worried about the consequences of her catching it. I don't know much about Tamiflu, except that its a prescription only medication...theres a number you can call now though and you describe your symptoms over the phone and if they suspect swine flu they'll send you the drug. It's not a cure though. They're urging people not to take it unless swine flu is definitely confirmed/suspected, because its kind of a 'one per person' thing  xxx |
Day 4 and I feel so much better. I am even going to take Alfie to the woods later as we both need some fresh air. Tamiflu is a prescription only drug as Lucia said, it only fights the effect of the flu it is not a vaccination. They have another drug called relenza which is a drug you sniff but they are saying that this is being stockpiled in case the flu strain becomes more virulent later in the year, relenza is said to be able to fight off nastier bugs. For anyone in the UK, just go to the NHS website for the info you want. I wont go into detail as it is all on there. All I can say is that it is nasty flu compared to what you would normally catch, Day 1 sneezing and feelin yuck, Day 2 fever, Day 3 tail end of fever and double yuck, Day 4 just feels like a cold. Don't panic folks although if you have other health probs it is probably better to call your doc. Oh and they are preparing a vaccine for later in the year, that might be worth getting. |
Both me and Amelia have Swine Flu, this is our second day of taking Tamiflu... considering the weather right now I'm glad I have an excuse to not leave the house. It's pretty lonely being in quarantine though. :( |
Are you past the fever stage, it only lasted just over 24 hours for me, but I am in 4th day of it starting, I feel well enough to go out now, but it is pouring with rain so poor old Alfie will have to stay in for a while longer. I am more concerned about him than myself, he is getting bored. Mind you I do fancy a pint, so I might slip out in a while and go spread my germs. Having the flu is like having a forged £20 note, you have to pass it on and get rid of it lol. Poor Amelia, at least we know what is happening, it must frighten the hell out of kids. Hope you feel better soon. |
My temp. has dropped slightly but the weather is so bad I've had to put the heating on today because both me and Amelia were feeling the cold. :( I'm dosing Amelia up on Calpol, that stuff is magic I swear, she has little bursts of energy where she goes to play on the floor with her toys but all I want to do is go to bed and sleep. I could do with getting some food in to her though, she doesn't really want to eat but she's drinking lots of water, OJ and milk so I'm not overly concerned. |
I haven't felt like eating much either, I am ready for a big dinner today. Calpol works wonders, I used it on my kids when they were small. Golden rule is plenty of fluids, hot lemon works wonders on the swollen throat and for me I always take beechams powders. |
Prayers for you all....especially our little Amelia....to feel better soon. Hugs |
Oh little Amelia too, poor baby. Vickie it's so hard to be sick when your children are. Coolbar you sound like you know of alot of good remedies and it sounds like they are working. I hope and pray you all will be well soon. |

Amelia seems pretty good today, she woke up at 8.30 as bright as a button, no temp, doesn't look flushed or pale, full of smiles and giggles. She's got a slight cough so I'll just give her some cough meds for that. I've got the sniffles today and a very dry throat which is making me a cough a little bit but I certainly have more energy today and I feel the motivation to actually get my house back the right way round... as my friend said yesterday, I'm living in a pig sty! |
All I have now is the leftovers So much rubbish on my lungs, I can see why they reccomend people with asthma to see the doc. It feels like I have been living in a rubbish bin for a few days also, not the house, me lol. |
Good Morning Hope all of you are feeling better this morning. :nursing: |
coolbar, how are you:confused: Have you gone to the Dr.?? I have heard Vicki and Amelia are doing much better and I hope you are the same. Hugs |
I am ok now Just a blocked nose Hope Vicky and Amelia are getting better too Almost everyone I know within a 50 mile radius has been affected, my grandaughter is in hospital at moment with it, repiratory problems, she is only 18 months, she is ok they have her in as a precaution, she is on a drip with some medication other than Tamiflu and also for the dehydration. Poor little Sophie, she is a dear little soul. Mum is with her |
I hope she gets better soon :( |
Glad you're feeling better coolbar!! I will keep little Sophia in my prayers. The little ones seem to be getting hit with the hardest cases in the US. |
Sophie is going to be just fine, just her little body is having a tougher time than us. Thanks for your thoughts. |
