Back Yard Habitat.... Hey guys, i need your opinion on something, before i ask my mom. ;) i was looking at the picture of everyone's yards, and thinking about how pretty they are, then i looked out the window and saw how boring mine was, lol. :p i remembered this thing i heard of called back yard habitat. Its baisically just planting trees and flowers that attract different kinds of birds and butterflies and everything like that. What you do is hang birdhouses and bird feeders and plant butterfly bushes and those kind of things. i thought it sounded like a great idea. there are some things i don't want to do, like have a fish pond, but everything else sounds good. so do you guys think it would be a good idea? thanks! :) |
Great Idea! Sounds like a beautiful idea to me! You can never go wrong with adding plants/tree's to your yard. And most little things grow sooooo fast when planted so you will have many years to enjoy them and watch it all grow. :p (also, perenials can be split and planted so your investment in them multiplies) |
I think that sounds great. My house backs up to the woods, but I have a small wildflower garden, with butterfly bushes, all kinds of flowers, bird houses hanging in the trees, hummingbird feeders, and bird feeders. Also lots of wildlife. Not too much in bloom right now because of the hot summer and very little rain. Next spring it will be beautiful!!!!!! I'll see if I can't find some pix that I took in the early summer. Joy, Nikki and Chloe Rose :rose: |
thanks guys! i'm gonna do a little more research the approach my mom with it, i wonder what she'll say.... |
Ponds are alot of work, I started one last summer and haven't finshed it yet! I also have gardens that take up alot of time. Remember anything you plant needs attention, gardening is wonderful but you have to have time for it.... Good luck and have fun researching flowers and such is fun! Watching your first flowers come up is like watching a new yorkie trick! So exciting! |
thanks! i'm not so sure if i'm going to have a pond...i'd love one, but i'd be so worried about one of my babies falling in. like if i put a little fence up that would keep the dogs out, but if my cat decided she wanted some fish.... :( |
Megan, sounds like you are back to nature kinda gal... :p I spent the most of the day mowing and riding around with the leaf bagger, getting up the grass clippings and what leaves have fallen. This is like velcro to the yorkies coats. :lol tears Just keep in mind when setting in plants, whether they are sun or shade plants. Soil is important too.. Good luck :D |
