Half Marathon Has anyone ever done a half marathon? If so, do you have any good training tips? I am doing one in November and am starting to get a little nervous. |
Hi there fellow runner :) I've done a few marathons and a lot of 1/2's. Are you following a training program? The best tip I can give is to find a good training program, follow it and believe in it while listening to your body. Do you have a training partner? Are you in training now?? Lots of questions, lol |
I have found a couple of training programs online. They are both set for three months, so I will be starting one of them soon. As of now I am running 4-5 times a week and am up to 5 miles. One thing that I've read said that you can train for 10 miles because adrenaline will kick in for the last three miles. Is that true? A friend and I are going to do the half marathon together, but have yet to run together. |

Adreniline does kick in to a point. But if you go out too fast and over do it in the first few miles (which many people do), then adreneline doesn't help much, lol Its more about stamina and if the first few miles feel way too easy, that means you are running just about the speed you should be at the beginning. Because what feels easy at miles 1-7, starts to feel a lot tougher at miles 8-13.1. If you work your long run up to 10 or 11 miles, that will be enough to get you through it if its your first 1/2. The feeling you get at crossing the finish is worth every ounce of effort you put into the race. There are some really good training programs on Runnersworld.com and also there are runners forums there for every distance. Lots of great tips :) Have you done any shorter distance races? 10k or 5k? |
Yay for you!! I am still in the training phases myself. I haven't gotten brave enough to pick out a 1/2 to try for. I absolutely love running now that I have a training program that makes it easy!! Please update! |
Thanks for the website suggestion. I am going to check it out. I am hoping to fit in a short distance race before the half marathon. amandawash~ What training program are you doing? |

I am still in the running for x minutes and walking for x. I also do long distances races on horses so I am coming back to running slowly so I don't get hurt and miss any endurance rides! But the running and riding really are great together- it's a nice break for my horse for me to get off and run beside him. What program did you use? Are you able to run five miles continuously? |
