Traveling...Any tips on sights to see, etc. Hi Everyone, next year we are planning a trip in our motorhome and I would like to get tips and advice from anyone who cares to share. We will be leaving our home in FL, heading to Texas into New Mexico and then heading up to Colorado, South and North Dakota, etc. and back home. I've ordered several travel magazines from several states but I thought it may be a good idea to come on here and ask for help from everyone here. Anyone having any great ideas on places to visit, must see sights, places to eat, little shops to visit, etc. please please let me know. I found a great website to find the best times of the year to visit and I see that it is not right now. I just read the "Hot Hot Hot Hot" post so I think we'll start out in Texas in April. Any info, advice, opinions, or fave things will be appreciated so we can plan a trip not to be forgotten. I hope to hear from everyone soon...thanks in advance. |
A couple years ago I went to Austin, TX for a conference. A friend went with me and we rented a car and drove back home to Oregon. The locals in Austin told us to go to The Salt Lick. It's out of town a ways and we got lost looking for it. Once we got there, it was worth it. They don't sell alcohol, but you can bring your own. I don't think I have ever heard of a restaurant where you can bring your own? The Salt Lick The only place we went in New Mexico was the Carlsbad Caverns. I like them and it was a pretty drive to get there. I wanted to take I-25 north through New Mexico because I have heard it is very pretty. My friend wanted to go to San Francisco so we headed West instead. Big mistake - found out that being friends with her was a mistake too, but that's another story :( I've never been anywhere else along your route, so I'm really not much help. Good luck and have a great, safe trip! |
We just got back from a road trip from Chicago to Sedona, Arizona. If you can get to Sedona it is really pretty. Pike's Peak and Estes Park were pretty cool when I went there in the 70's! |

I second Pike's Peak and Estes park in Colorado. I also enjoyed Garden of the Gods there too. I lived near Austin, Tx for a few years. My favorite place to visit was Colorado Bend State Park. Its in central Texas. Beautiful place. TPWD: Colorado Bend State Park |

Grand Canyon jeep tours and hummer tours Grand Canyon allow you to find yourself on one of the many Adventures through the back trails of the Grand Canyon, and be prepared for far more than a simple sightseeing trip.bus tour grand canyon |
If you are coming thru TX, the Hill Country west of Austin and San Antonio is beautiful. If you decide to go thru the Amarillo area you should stop to see Palo Duro Canyon. If you go thru the southwest part, go to Ft. Davis and the Big Bend area. Going into New Mexico, Carlsbad Caverns is very interesting and the White Sands area is pretty but HOT. Our favorite part of New Mexico is the northern part. In fact we are leaving on August 3. We are going to Angel Fire but that whole area is absolutely gorgeous. Colorado has so many wonderful areas...Colorado Springs and Pikes Peak, Mesa Verde, Telluride, Ouray and the million dollar highway. Have a great time and if you have any questions you can PM me. |
