We just got back from Utah and it was so nice and cool! I sure wasn't looking forward to coming back to this heat! I hate going outside. It is so humid here. We are only about 20 minutes from the coast. We haven't had any rain for months, everything is burning up!

I live about 70 miles north of Dallas and Pepper and I have hardly seen the light of day. It is so hot outside we just stay in under the a/c. It is absolutely miserable out there.

Two years ago, yesterday, I quit smoking after having smoked for 36 years. Well, that, and some health issues I have put on a considerable amount of weight. I finally got it in my head to start walking. I have been leaving the house as soon as it is light outside. OMG, it is still freakin hot!! I have to force myself to open that front door and head out. I am ready for winter.

And Twalla, not sure about Alaska. My dad has been rving in Alaska for the past 6 weeks or so. They stayed at Santaland RV park in North Pole, Alaska and he said when they arrived it was 86 degrees. :eek:

You should come visit New England for some relief!!!! It has not been above 80 once since April. I think I heard it rained 23 out of 30 days in June, and here is what I read about what July is going to be like.

So with the jetstream positioned close by, storms will be likely to take tracks close to New England, meaning above normal precipitation amounts. New England will also be positioned on the northern side of the jetstream, which is the cooler side, meaning below average temperatures.


So it's been a chilly/wet summer so far... like no summer at all! This weather SUCKS! I would trade houses with you for a week if I could! At this point I'd gladly take a week of 100+ degrees sunny days! Funny how opposites the weather is from your area to mine!

I love hot weather, I love it, I love it, I love it!!! It gives me energy, it makes want to do things outdoor. If it's too hot, I just wear shorts and a tank top and I'm ok.
Crazy me? I hear that all the time. :p, but seriously, I love the Houston heat.;)

I'm in Houston too and it's so hot I can't even put my sealtbelt on when I leave work....the girls love their walks but I cut them short due to the heat - I can't ever remember a JUNE in Houston like this june....I expect it in July-October. The climate seems to be really going thru changes and it's kind of scary.

To those in cooler temps - we'll all be making fun of you this winter when we're wearing our shorts if that makes it any better :D

yup - a bit nuts.

I'm kind of like you - I can handle it but feel for the pets and those who have to be outside working all day - I don't know how they do it

Air Conditoning and Electric Bills
 
I guess all of us in NJ should be happy that it has been cool. Even though I miss swimming in the pool. I haven't turned on my AC yet. My summer AC bill without AC here in NJ was 250.00:mad: this month. That includes ceiling fans, pool pump running 24 hours, dishwasher running 1 x daily, washer and dryer about 6 loads a week, TV on at night only, and using lights only at night. If I run my AC 24/7 I can't even fathom what it would be. Last year I ran it for 1 week straight only and it was 423.00:eek: that month. My stepdaughter out in Indiana runs her AC 24/7 never shutting down in a 8 room house similar to mine and her bill in summer is 135.00 monthly. How is everyone elses around the country compare in summer. :aimeeyork

Texas heat is something I don't miss, though I miss everything else about it. Not ever opening your windows from May through the beginning of October. And heaven forbid a thunderstorm rolls through and knocks out your power and you don't have air-conditioning for hours.

I was there in May and it was cool in Dallas, which was unusual for Dallas in May.

Our electric bill for last month was $258. We have 3 window a/c units running all the time. We have an older house on blocks and it takes a lot more to heat the house in the winter than it does to cool the house in the summer. During the winter there are several months our electric bill is over $500. I can handle being a little warm but I can't handle being cold.

You're lucky....My last summer in Texas electric bill was $800.00 for one month.

I can't handle heat, do much better in cooler weather and so do the dogs.

It's been really hot here in California 100 plus some days. Thank god for my redwood trees in the back yard. Keeps everything a bit cooler, especially with the misters on. And the beach is onky 40 minutes away. I love the summer weather here, and you all fromTexas East can keep the humidity, Do Not miss that one bit. I truely feel for all of you in Texas.

I have my fingers crossed that we do not get any hurricanes this year. Two hurricanes in three years has really been too much. We still have not recovered from them. And going without electricity for weeks in this heat and humidity is just too much. I think if we have another one like the last I will pack up and move further inland.
