I think the red hourglass is a black widow, not a brown recluse... either way that is neither of them.

I had a spider on my patio screen slider door last year, she was HUGE!!! I posted a link last year... I let her stay there mainly because I was too chicken to get anywhere near the door.... so she stayed for like 2 weeks and I couldn't go out onto my deck, then one day she was just gone. PHEW!!!

I am with the others... the only spider I like is a dead one! I have goosebumps from your pics!!! YUCK YUCK!!!!!

That's a rare New Jersey Jumping Spider. They ambush their prey. The wait until something gets to close and then JUMP on them. I hear they are particularly fond of things that resemble cameras and curious teenagers....

i kill spiders i see in the house because i am afriad they will bite my dog. if they are outdoors i usually try to avoid them. i dont like spiders!!!!!

Hes nothing to worry about. I had one of them by my door just the other day. Im even thinking about naming mine :). Haha. They are helpful really. I saw it eat a misquito the other day ( after it got stuck in his web ) ! :D Its not bothering me so its aloud to stay on my porch. They must be a NJ thing

They are harmless.....but, I will not live with them. The problem with them is that they hide during the day. That just creeps me out, so I simply relocate them. Or shall I say I make my son relocate them. :p

No, I was not being serious. :p There really are jumping spiders, but they are mainly ground living and live in Central and South America. I just hadn't messed with you in a while and could pass up the opportunity. ;)

I HATE spiders. I have a 13 year old that has a serious spider fear...He actually can hardly breathe if he sees one. So they have to go.......

I do try and relocate them. I take a jar with a cover, scoop them up and take them out into the edge of the woods. Uncover the jar....lay it down and RUN!!!!

Misty-LOL. oooh ok. Not nice. After I read your post I kept running reallyreally fast past him. and I haven't gone near him with the camera cause I was all paranoid about him jumping on the camera. If he jumped on me I'd probably have 17 heart attacks and cry for a month.

ladyjane - ah yes. Those are nasty little buggers! I was down the shore for the weekend this past weekend, and I'm COVERED in fly bites from the bay.

Julie - I'm so sorry to hear about your son's spider fear! I used to be like that. It was horrible - especially cause no one really understands how scary they can be if they don't have that fear. I'm not as bad anymore, obviously haha.

Sorry, I wish I was kidding but it sure looks like he's hauling around a sac full of eggs. Can you calll the fire department, like they do with cats in trees? Or maybe a neighbor? I cannot stand spiders so I've very impressed that you've been able to walk by him so many times. Keep checking in so we know you're ok!

there's an idea! My brother is the fire department!! haha. (he's a volunteer). If he ever gets home from hanging around his girlfriend maybe he'll move it for me. :rolleyes:
