May be TMI, But I need to vent So I went to the doctor today to look into a breast reduction and left in tears. You see, I am a 38 DD and only 5'3. My back is constantly killing me and my line of work ( air force ) I have to exercise at least 3 times a week in a big group ( mortifying ). They bounce everywhere, are painful, and not to mention make finding "cute" clothes damn near impossible ( without looking like a hoochie mama ). I'm really starting to get depressed. I asked him about a reduction and he said that he would want to send me to physical therapy and see if that works. Also he wants me to go to a nutritionist to see if i can lose maybe 5-10 lbs to see if that makes a difference. I told him I've been all kinds of weights, and nothing makes a difference. THEY DON'T GO ANYWHERE!!... I've tried muscle relaxers, back stregnthening exercises...I know he is just wanting me to exhaust all my avenues before the insurance from the military will pay for it but I am growing restless. I started crying when he told me all I would have to do to get the procedure done ( if they even offered to pay for it ) and he asked me if i wanted to see a psychologist!!! I am depressed, yes! But I KNOW how to fix this. I don't think seeing a psychologist and talking about my breast size is going to make any difference on how clothes fit and how my back feels. GRRRRR! Sorry I just had to vent and my DH is sick of hearing about it because all I end up doing is crying!! .....Sigh...... |
I'm sorry you have this problem. I know with any kind of medical procedures like this they have to go through these hoops to ensure that you have exhausted all avenues and your healthy (in the right mind frame) for such a drastic change. Go through it... it will happen and you can look back and say how worth it is was. Stay strong ~ I'm pulling for you! |
So sorry about your pain, my twin has big breast she has somentimes back pain too, she even sleep with a bra on, Perhaps a second opinion you need just in case. Good luck.Hugs |
Prhaps it might be a good idea to go along with the recommendation to see a psychologist. At least the psychologist might have some insight into the physical and mental stresses you are experiencing - and perhaps he / she will actually put forward a recommendation for surgery? I'll keep my fingers crossed for you. |

Good luck. I understand completely. :( |
Maybe he is telling you this because you are still young and possibly planning a family in the future? I say this because I, like you, also looked into the breast reduction procedure when I was 19 years old. I also was out of proportion with my breast size compared to the rest of my body. The doctor told me that at age 19, and me wanting to have a family when I was married, would play an impact on getting the surgery then. He said that when you gain weight, regardless of pregnanacy weight or not, the breast reduction would just be a waste of time. He said that if I went from a DD to a B and then gained weight, it would of gone right back to where it started, if that makes any sense . . . |
Awww, sweetie, don't cry, FIGHT! I have had two reductions and it's totally worth it. I self-paid, so I didn't have to go through the insurance bull, but I would have if I had it! I belong to a great group Welcome to BreastHealthOnline - Bringing women better breast care through knowledge and support, since 2001, when I had the first redux. Please, go there! They have tons of advice on how to get through all this junk and will really help you to feel not so alone, as well. BIG hugs!!! I know how embarrassing and awful big boobies can be, and how painful. Get together all of your med records showing all the things you've tried, regarding your back pain, that is a start right there! Tracy |

Which ever Dr said...a breast reduction wouldn't work if you had kids needs to go back to school! Your boobs may get droopy but they won't go back to the size they were!!!! |
Just jump through all their hoops and keep complaining about your back problems. It will take time, but you will get there! Just keep going. Men can be so #@!$#$.. |
A regular practioner will always tell you the same thng this doctor told you. I don't know your situation and have never had a problem with being too large chested but my best friend bypassed her doctor and went straight to a plastic surgeon. She complained of all the same problems you do. |
