Anyone got a Hamster? I saw the cutest hamsters today. They were Teddybear hamsters...so chubby and super friendly. I had 2 hamsters growing up but i barely remember the upkeep so i'm wondering are they hard to maintain? What do they eat? And if you have pics please post:D |
I did until recently when my little Riley passed away. :( They are easy to look after, just make sure they are cleaned out regularly. Mine would go in the same area so I just took out the damp sawdust everyday and then did a complete clean out once a week. Riley was pretty active at night so I'm glad she wasn't in my bedroom because she would run in her wheel for hours and I could hear her from upstairs if the door was open. They can eat most fruit and veg in small amounts. I just looked up online if I wasn't 100% sure. Here's some photos of Riley in her pretty pink house. http://www.facebook.com/album.phpaid...3&l=78b19cd1a9 Please excuse the bunny photos. |

We got our 8 yr old son one for Christmas last year and she is the perfect little hamster. He carriers her around on his shoulder or in his hands all day long and I'm really surprised she has been so 'durable'! Last night we went in his room late at night and he had her in his hand sleeping with her. We rescued her and I think she was happy to be able to move once more! She also has a ball that she rolls around in all over the house and just goes wherever she can. I don't have pix on this computer but will try to send one tomorrow. She is a Russian hamster that we got at Petsmart. We also bought the Habitrail cage system thingy. It looks like a big dome and the wheel in it is plastic and is not very noisy at all. You can also buy little tunnels and different rooms for it too. |

Yes, we got her the small clear ball and she goes all over the place in it. My son even takes her outside in it also. If you go look at my album named "Hammi the Hamster", you can see a photo of her. I can't wait to see your new little one! :p |

I accidently deleted a letter out of the link. Riley had a wheel built into her house and I thought that wouldn't make a nose but it did. Also, because Yorkie's are terriers Gypsy was VERY interested in Riley so I had to teach her some manners about sticking her nose up to the house and whining at her. After a while she got the idea, Kayla was never interested though. They are a little jumping, with a lot of handling from a young age you can get them very tame and come to you rather than having to make a grab for them. :) I need to go buy another hamster because Amelia keeps pointing at the house for me to take her to look at Riley and of course she's not there anymore. :( |
I had a teddy bear hamster when I was a teenager. I loved that little booger. He was so tame. I carried him all around the house and he loved to roll around the house in his ball. We had a poodle that would follow him around. As long as you get a really tame one and really spend a lot of time with it, you should have a good experience. We've considered getting our girls one but with Tatum in the house, I would really hate to see an accident happen - like the hamster escaping and Tatum catching it before we do. Of course that can be avoided with some careful attention but I'm not sure my girls would be that diligent about it. |
I took Amelia to pick out a new hamster yesterday and she's happy again now. He's only a baby and still very timid but he's more settled today. http://photos-b.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos..._4723068_n.jpg He's a Longhaired Syrian and his name is Baba Booey. |
My daughter had dwarf hamsters. They were cute but you really couldnt hold them because they would bite you. She had two that she thought were both females but one was a male and they had babies. She didnt know what they were at first she said" Mom theres some creatures in my hamster cage" Which I thought was cute. So that was an experience. They have all passed now. We feed them hamster food and yogurt drop treats and we also gave them tiny pieces of fruit |
I've had 2 teddy bear hamsters - they are AWESOME little pets. The first one I had, Sunny, lived for 5 years. my other one, Lewis, lived for 2 - he just died about a month ago. Neither one of them ever bit me (I've had other kinds of hamsters, who DID bite me), and they weren't overly hyper. They were pretty easy to take care of. I just got the regular hamster bedding from petco, changed the cage once a week, and every 2 days I'd let them out in their running balls for about half an hour. They sell hamster/rodent grain at petco/petsmart. They're easy to take care of, they're fun, and they're really cute! |
My son has a hamster. It is called a winter white. His name is Tazz, It is gray and has a black stripe on its back. In the winter it turns all white with just a little gray on the back. Shawn cleans the cage about once a week. My daughter Bethany also has a hamster. Hers is named Shelby. They love them!! I will post a couple pic for you! |
2 Attachment(s) Sorry I forgot the pictures!!! LOL The cage glows in the dark!!! Shawn loves it!! |
