Argh...can't find any reliable "reviews of ins. companies" online either...they all seem tied to sellers. |
A friend of mine is in the business, she is with State Farm. She had her policy there before working with the company and is very glad, for our area they offer the best price AND coverage. We have to have windstorm, flood, and all kinds of stuff! She compares rates and so far they offer the best coverage for the $. We were thinking about switching everything over to them as well but USAA has such stellar service its worth it to stay. |
I learned a long time ago that your policy is only as good as the agent behind it. To me, having an agent you can trust and one who will go to bat for you when needed is more important than saving a few $$ a year. A lot of insurance companies are so impersonal...if I have a problem I want someone there for me and not an automated system that gives you the first representative available. Be careful when comparing policies...make sure you compare benefits, payouts, deductables, liabilities etc... Sure, you can save a few bucks with a cheaper policy but what do you really have if the deductables are higher, the payouts are lower and you are missing some of the important little coverages you may need like towing, glass breakage, car rental in case of an accident, lower liabilities if someone gets hurt on your property etc... That being said...we have State Farm and have had them for about 30 years now...my parents had them too. |
don't know if you have a Farm Bureau in your area but I swear by them!!! Full coverage on 2 trucks, 1 motorcycle, and 2 hot rods is 72.00 a month. You also get a discount for carrying your homeowner's and life insurance through them as well. |
We have State Farm for home and auto (I've been with them 19 years). Our life is through hubby's work. I agree 100% with what my2boyz has said...saving money is good but it doesn't get you much when your agent isn't worth a flip. We have never had a problem with State Farm...we have had to switch agents once when our first retired and our one now is just as great as our first. |
My family has used State Farm for many, many years and have found them to be very good, with reasonable rates and quality service. I do think it depends on your agent, if you find a great agent, you'll be happy. :) Here's some review sites I found: Insurance Company Reviews and Ratings Auto Insurance Reviews and Ratings by State How to Choose the Right Auto Insurance Company - Edmunds.com Ratings | J.D. I think progressive is great for home and auto and I am in the business as well , what they do offer is something I have never seen on my auto policies, if your dog is injured while in your vehicle they will pay up to 1000.00 in vets bills and will pay another amount if the accident causes death to any pet in the car.. I think this is a excellent benefit! |

LOL! Here's my vote for State Farm. My grandma, mom, me, my roommate, her parents... everyone I know has/have always had State Farm. |
I work for a State Farm agent so of course thats who I am going to recommend. While we may not always have the best rate, we ALWAYS offer exceptional customer service to our policyholders!! I can also respond as a State Farm customer who has always been completely satsified with my insurance company. |
I have my insurance through AAA, its super affordable! I have AAA too just because I live alone and am female and drive to work and home (more than 50 miles a day) alone... so its nice peace of mind. I do have a brand new car, but I like that AAA shows up in 15 mins after I call if I need them. A plus membership is $75 a year and then you do the insurance and the more you insurance, the more of a discount you get. I pay under $1000 for both home content insurance and car full coverage insurance. (hope that helps a bit) |
My family works for State Farm and my Grandfather was an Agent. I worked for State Farm too. All of my policies are with them. They also offer a multi-line discount if you have more than one policy and multi-car discount. Be sure to ask about those... :) |
Thanks everyone! It sure seems like State Farm has the popular vote here! :) |

We have State Farm for our home and autos. When we got hit by a hurricane last year our home received lots of damage and State Farm handled the claim very well. We could not have been happier. I had talked to other people in our area that had different insurance companies and their insurance companies did not want to pay for hardly anything. |
