Evil Snake! 2 Attachment(s) So... I come home tonight and like usual, I look into the robin's nest to see the eggs... only I found an empty nest.... then I see the evil snake on the air-conditioning unit. The boys were tormenting it but I made them stop. I feel violated! That snake crawled up on my porch, up my ficus tree and ate those eggs. That poor Robin! :( |
that is so sad. :( I'm very very sorry!! Snakes are beautiful, but at the same time I can't stand 'em! |
I am sorry that you now have an empty nest. What a disappointment when you were expecting to watch the eggs hatch and the babies grow up. |
Ah, that's sad...I'm sorry! |
I'm so sorry.:( I can totally understand how u feel. This happened to my Mom a couple of yrs ago......only the baby birds were in a fern hanging basket on her front porch. She watched them grow every day & watched the Mom work diligently to feed them. She became so attached watching them. And then........Yes, u know what happened! It was awful. I won't even go into the details. But to this day, she has Never had another fern hanging basket.:( |
Did you kill the snake?? I can't stay around long enough to kill one, but I wouldn't want that thing sitting on my a/c! Sorry for the loss. Angie |
This may seem harsh, but the mother bird will hopefully learn to build her nest in a different tree and possibly much higher and better hidden on the next try. This may have been her first nest. Wild folk have a harder life than we do! Most likely she and poppa bird will try again before summer. Hopefully, new babies will not be viewble in the old ficus. Maybe the snake will go after field mice the next time ;) |
aww how sad |
Poor Robin....Did you kill the snake... |
That's so sad!!! :ghug::ghug::ghug: |
Oh my gosh! Poor robins. :( What did you do about the snake? |
I wouldn't keep the snake hanging around....... JMO. |
 That's terrible!! The poor robins. I'm sorry, but that blasted snake would have gone "to live with Jesus"!! I'm terrified of those things! :thumbdown:thumbdown |
OMG!! How sad!!! I'm sorry for your loss :(. what kind of snake is that? I hope you got rid of it. |
OMG! I hate snakes! Did you kill the snake? Just knowing it was on the AC unit would give me the heebie jeebies. I would be afraid that it would somehow come through the AC unit into the house! |
I'm sure we will get another bird nesting here soon! Usually it is the cardinals and wrens that nest in the ficus. A snake got some eggs a couple of years ago from the ficus and within a week or so there was a new nest. As for the snake, it is a black snake which are harmless. My son and his two buddies started throwing stuff at the snake and trying to find things to poke it until I put a stop to it. They are actually good to have around. They kill the mice that will otherwise get into the house. This snake doesn't go into the air conditioner it goes right up the siding into the walls ~ eek! Every once in awhile we will find one in the garage... that freaks me out but I figure as long as it doesn't get into the actual house ~ I'm good. |
you are so non-chalant about the snake and my heart is still pounding just from looking at the picture!!! Yikes! |
Wow! Thats so sad!!! :( |
I'm sorry:( I hate snakes, they gross me out. I remember in PR we had one in the backyard and my grandfather took a huge knife and split it in half and you could see both halfs still moving...groosss! |

As sad as this is, this is human nature. Black snakes are good to have around. We get snakes out here all the time, of course, we have to watch, as we also have poisonous ones. When we have black ones, hubby usually just picks them up (with gloves on) and throws them over the fence. A few years ago, we had a rabbit that had babies, they had their nest on the ground by a tree out back. All they do is dig a small spot. I saw hubby outside on the john deere stopped watching something. I could see a mother rabbit jumping back and forth. I asked hubby what was going on. Well, the snake had eaten two of the 3 baby bunnies and the mother was trying to save them. It broke my heart. I asked hubby why did you let it eat the babies, he said it's nature(and it really is). After that snake was done, it crawled up the tree. |

Things like this are always hard to deal with. But sadly, life happens. I once watched a hawk go in and out of our birch tree plucking out baby bluebirds that had just fledged from my box. I was so mad. I tried to chase it away but he kept coming back. I was so brokenhearted. Life goes on though...but I did take my box down. I just couldn't go through that again. |
