Vent: She's gone through 3 dogs in 3 months
 

Hi, sorry I just need to vent. My neighbor has had 3 dogs in 3 months. I would normally mind my own business, but the last 2 dogs have affected my life.

The first one was a 2 lb chi that she owned for a month and got rid of because she didn't realize how hard it was to potty train, and her landlord complained about it.

The next dog, a german shepherd, she tied up in the backyard and it stayed in that same spot for at least a month. Her backyard floods when it rains, so the dog was mostly walking around in water and mud all the time. This dog would constantly bark all hours, and the police were called by several people in the middle of the night over this.

Now, just 2 days ago, the german shepherd is gone and is replaced by a very large pit bull. This dog is also tied up all the time in the back. In fact it is standing out there in a thunderstorm we are getting howling and whining. This time though she has a small plastic kids playhouse for the dog to crawl in. So, this dog not only barks constantly. (I know its lonely.) But it also howls and growls when I am outside. I know pits can be nice, but this one isn't and it scares me.

Thanks for listening to me vent, lol. I am just so tired. I was up until 2am listening to the dog bark on and off. (Her yard is very close to our bedroom window.) I had to be up at 7 to get my son on the bus. Can't nap now cuz the dog is still barking! The neighbor on the other side of this lady's house is also pregnant, and the house behind hers has a 2 month old, and we are all fed up with this.

I hear you LOUD and CLEAR. I for one am extremely tired of people getting their "disposable pets". You see them for awhile and while they are there, they are abused by......neglect, environments that are not for the living, no water or food. These animals, due to neglect, can get very aggressive toward people and other animals, therefore placing labels on many breeds. And when you finally do make THAT call to get the poor "pets" help it is often for naught. At times I begin to wonder if people shouldn't have to take a test before acquiring a pet. Yes, I hear you loud and clear as I am sure a lot of others do. Poor, poor animals.

i know how you feel...my aunt does this...first it was a boston terrier that was too hyper,which is basic knowledge of the breed that they are energetic...then two shihzus that "nipped"the baby(who probably deserved it) and last weekend they got a rescue...wonder how long this one will last...sheesh sum ppl dont have a clue....

I have had 2 shih tzus that have never nipped at my kids, and my kids have carried them around even at 2-3 years old. I cannot believe that someone would suggest a baby would deserve it! Thats just aweful! If any of my dogs bit any of my kids they would be gone! I don't really care who thinks thats bad, PEOPLE come first. I did not give birth to my dogs or take vows in the sight of God to never leave my dog. It hurts my kid...it's gone. I always make sure my kids are respectful...and if one of the dogs had just been hit by a car and very injured or was giving birth and nipped, thats one thing, but to say a child deserved it because, what, it tried to touch a dog or pull it's hair?? That's insane.

I should add that I have never gotten rid of any dogs that I have raised for biting any of my children. None of my babies have. My cousin dropped off a rescued doberman to me once that was a few years old and very well trained. She found it running and sick and thin. I took it in and never left her alone with my kids, I would never do that with a strange dog, esp a big dog! One day my daughter who was 3 at the time was eating a sucker, and the dog walked up, growled and bit her hand. I found her a new home with no kids. Just isn't happening. I also had a dog put down that went crazy at only 7 months old. Killed 2 kittens, a goat, tried to kill another goat, and almost killed my horse. Tore him up. This was over the course of a few different days. Each time I made it nearly impossible for him to get to any animal, and he would dig, jump, chew, to find anything he could. I guess that's terrible too?

We had a pound puppy once. We went through a lot of trials with parvo the first week we had him. :( But he was a good pet for 2 years, then he bit one of the neighbor kids. I did not see it happen and was suspicious the child had provoked our dog who had never been anything but sweet. Then less than a month later my one year old toddler wandered near him when he had a chewy. My son had not even touched him and the dog lunged and bit him right next to his eye! We were all shocked at the sudden viciousness. My DH found him another home that day.

I no longer assume a child may have provoked an attack! Some people should not have dogs, and some dogs should not be around children.

Maybe you can talk to her landlord. If he complained about the chi and had her get rid of it, maybe he can make the rental property a no pet property. That would take care of the noise, and maybe get the dog into a proper home.
