A question for those with steam cleaners Can you put anything in with the water to disinfect the floors as you clean or can I spray the floor with something before using the steam cleaner on them? We're moving and I want to clean the floors really well before we go. |
I have never used anything in mine but water. I think they are just suppose to be used for steam cleaning and thats it. Mine cleans really well just with water. |
What kind of steam cleaners do you have? Could you put some Natures Miracle for hard floors in it? |
Like I said I have just used water. I don't think you are suppose to put anything in them. I bought mine from Home Shopping and paid quite a bit for it and then I have a smaller one that was not expensive. I use it for just day to day things. You know what???? It just dawned on me you are talking about the steam cleaners like a vaccum cleaner. I was talking about the hand steam cleaners. You could put Natures Miracle or anything like that in it. I just bought some for mine carpet steam cleaner. Sorry about that. I just had the other one in my mind. |
I thought she was taling about the one for hard floors too! I have a lot of tile...guess that's where my point of reference came from:rolleyes: |
Mine is the small, upright vacume type steam cleaner for tile, lenoleum etc... There is no smell to remove and no stains or anything like that...I just want to make sure the house is nice and clean for the new owners next week. |

I put bleach in the water that I put in the steam cleaner. It helps a lot! Does not hurt the steamer as far as I know... not yet anyways. I have a shark steam mop! |
I have a spot bot and I usually put in a little of the cleaning solution with a little vinegar. |
My Dad gave my sister and I a hard wood floor cleaner (not a steam one) because they never used it. My step Mom has MS and it was too hard for her to push it. We have both used Murphey's Oil in with the water. It smells wonderful and cleans the hard wood beautifully. |
This thread is a little confusing because there are steam cleaners for hard surfaces, and they actually sanitize by using steam. No disinfectant is necessary. There are also carpet cleaners that are called steam cleaners, but actually work by "hot water extraction" rather than real steam. So it depends upon what you are trying to clean, and if you really need a disinfectant, or just a through cleaning, you would never want to use bleach in a carpet cleaning machine, it could ruin your carpet, there are other disinfectants that are carpet safe, but usually only available at janitorial supply places. |
