Self tanner question Help! I don't "do" the sun, trying to slow down aging and avoid skin cancer;) Anyway, I usually use a lotion type self tanner. I found some L'Oreal spray bronzer stuff on sale and really love the results I'm getting, but my skin is SO dry! Anyone know how long I should wait to moisturize after using the spray? I don't want to mess it up:rolleyes: But I can't continue without lotion, my skin is really dry:( |

Im like you, Have always loved the sun and tanning beds but this year no more. I like that Micro-mist airbrush sunless tan by Neutrogena. Very natural, I would moisturize before you apply your self tanner. I just have a chemical peel and microdermabration done so I have to wear spf 70 when going outside..Good Luck |
I always moisturize before, especially areas like knees, elbows and ankles. I would wait at least 2-3 hours before moisturizing afterward. I use Tantowels... your skin doesn't feel wet afterwards... dries really fast. They also have a spray tanner you can use that shows up immediately. I used to worship the tanning beds and the sun ( and I am a redhead)... I would get soooo dark but with age comes wisdom... I prefer a fake tan and the safety that comes with it these days. :) |
you can try exfoliating first and then moisturizing.. itll help get off the dead and dry skin and then moisturize. wait about 15 minutes, then use your self tanner. |
Do you guys use the self tanner on your face as well? I want to start "practicing safe sun", but I want my face to be the same color, and I don't want to break out or anything! |
I am able to use the tantowels on my face without breaking out but if you have sensitive skin, I would go for a self tanner specifically for the face. Most brands that have self tanners on the market have face ones as well. |
I always use a scrub to exfoliate and avoid " the carrot effect" and streaking, apply moisturizer and then, the tanning lotion. The last one I bought brings everything in the bag Is your skin always dry, or has gotten dry because of the tanning lotion? |

This is a wonderful thread.... I like the idea of the tanning towels! It is so very important to watchout for those dangerous rays. This is a very fresh subject with me. I was at the dermatologist yesterday and am dealing with what is believed to be basil skin cancer. I had 2 places removed and may have to continue with a bit more "surgery" on one of the places. I will definitely be remembering my sunscreen from now on....... and a HAT!! |
Thank you, I will try moisturizing first. |
You are better off staying snow white. The stuff that's in most lotions and tanners can cause cancer too. Almost any lotion or tanner you buy from a department store is going to contain cancer causing preservatives. I don't even know of a healthy natural tanner. Eating lots of carrots maybe? ;) Eating really healthy and drinking lots of water will give you a natural glow, it wont turn you brown, but it will make your skin and body look and feel great. I would opt for an all natural moisturizer from the health food store, without all the cancer causing ingrediants. |
I've been using a self tanner that Mary Kay puts out for about 7 years. Works great! You don't get that orange color. Definitely exfoliate with a scrub before to get off dead skin cells. |
hi there. i go fake tan all the time. if its a lotion u are using u can mix miosturizer with the tan. half and half.but b sure to exfoliate first for much better results.. if not then i would miosturize first.. 2 hrs b4 u apply the tan.. plenty on knees and elbows as they are naturally dry areas.always let the miosturizer soak into ure skin first.i use skin so deep self tan.it looks just like a baby wipe. with added miosture. it will take 2 hrs to develop..just rub the wipe all over till u feel wet. takes about ten mins to dry. lasts about 3 days. even after washing . and i very rarely have streaks. it takes about two hrs b4 you can see the tan develop. so your best applying it at nite. if there are any little bits uve missed u can catch them in the morning. and 2 hrs l8er that should be you.goodluck.x |
I use Jergen's Natural Glow. I apply after exfoliating and then a couple hours later I apply lotion. I love this stuff. Works great! |
