Does anyone still have wallpaper in their house? 4 Attachment(s) We just moved to our home about 4 months ago. It used to be the model home. Our house was built back in 2001. Anyway, I was wondering if anyone still has wallpaper in their house. This home has very expensive wallpaper and I hate to take it down. It's kinda wild but I know it has to come down soon. I was just wondering. If I can get pictures loaded I will put some up. It's in my kitchen, master bath and hall bath. We are trying to work with the wallpaper in the kitchen for now. I also like the hall bath paper. I love animal print. |
Your house looks lovely. Looks to be pretty nice paper. I know taking the stuff down can be a rough job. I only have it in one of my bathrooms and it's time to take it down. I'm dreading it too. If you do have to take it down I know there are certain kinds of steam machines made for this but have never used them. Someone else probably has some good ideas. When I took some border paper down I mixed some Downy with water in a spray bottle and sprayed as I went. It softened enough to make it peel easier. Good luck with it. |
I LOVE the paper that's in your house. It is really nice! We don't have wall paper, but we have some wall borders in our house that I really hate... but we are renting, so it has to stay for now. |
I love the wall paper. Very pretty. I say keep it.:) |
Yes, I do. I had the wallpaper recently replaced in my kitchen and love it. I also added wallpaper to one of my two bathrooms, love it also. Yours is very pretty. Live with it for awhile and if it dosen't grow on you, take it down then. It's not hard. They make a little devise that you roll around on the paper, cutting little holes in it all over. Then you spray it with hot water, scrape and down it comes. Good luck in your new home. |
I have wallpaper in my guest bath. Put it up when I moved in here 16 years ago now. I still like the pattern and the look. It is a tiny bathroom made much more interesting by the paper. |
If wall are properly prepared, wallpaper is easy to take down. There is a product called sizing, and it should be put up first before the paper, it creates a seal between the paper and wallboard, so tearing down paper is easy, and it also is easier to apply. Too many people skip this step. If your paper was applied to brand new walls, the builders probably didn't even finish the wall with joint compound. If you've ever walked through an unfinished house, you might notice some walls have a large "WP" written on them, meaning the plasterer should not put joint compound or texture on those walls. The good news is your wallpaper might come off easily because they chances they used sizing are higher, the bad news is that it will have no texture whatsoever, and might look strange if painted because any flaw will show up, more so, if using a paint with any gloss at all. So you might need to hire a plasterer to finish the walls, if you don't wish to apply wallpaper again. Trends come and go in decorating, and I love wallpaper, it makes a wonderful statement, I think your paper is lovely. |
Wall paper was very popular in most homes up untill the 80's, then it went into plain walls painted, then white walls, and now it's do whatever you want because anything goes. I think the "cookie-cutter" homes are starting to get a bit boreing to some folks that want a more "homey" flair with wall-paper and distressed furniture. So, with that said, I would just go with what makes you happy. If you like it then keep it. ;) |
You have a beautiful home! I really like the wallpaper. I don't think it matters. If you like it, keep it. The only thing I would worry about would be wallpaper in your full bath. Im not sure about the steam or mold issue! I would think steam would make it harder to take it down one day:confused:. I have taken wallpaper down with a trim on top in our old kitchen. It wasn't bad! I actually used liquid fabric softener and hot water in a bucket with a sponge. I wiped it on and peeled it off about 5 mins later. Good Luck;) |
I only have wallpaper in one room but I love it. Your's looks to be in great shape and if you like it why not keep it. Unless you are thinking of selling your home do what you like not what others like or think. I believe there are too many people today who worry what others think |
Wow! I think it looks beautiful. :) We just moved into a home that has wallpaper in one bathroom. Pink floral. lol. I was ready to get rid of it asap, but the work involved... too much. I'm not a flowery kind of gal. Over the months it kinda grew on me. It is 'period correct' for a century old home. Seems to go with the clawfoot tub. So... yep. I just keep telling myself that. Am glad it's just in that one room. & that it's only 1/2 way up. |
I think wallpaper is kind of coming back "in." We have some friends who just built a brand new house and they put wallpaper in their bathroom (per the advice of their interior decorator) that looks VERY similar to what you have in your bathroom. I say keep it! I wouldn't want it in the main rooms of my house, but I think it sounds like those are good rooms where a little *pop* on the walls looks nice. :) |
I love the paper in your house - I wouldn't take it down, but that's just me! :p |
Thanks for everyone's comments. I really appreciate them. You can get a better look at the wallpaper (if your bored) in the social groups called Decorating Divas. There's more pictures of my house and my mom's house and some other ladies houses. Everyone should join. Thanks again. |
I love your house and the paper is gorgeous! I would keep it. |
