Thanks To All My Vegan Friends. I just wanted to drop a post and thank all you Vegans out there, especailly Ann (Wylie's Mom) who has been bumping Vegan posts for me. It's been just about five days now that I have not had meat. I've tried some new products that I like. One I really like is the Portabella Mushroom burger. I grill it up with a little onion and mozzarella and have it sweet potatoe french fries and fruit. Very filling and has a great taste. I've also had veggie subs with Mozzarella, lettuce, tomatoe, onion, oil and vinegar which are good. I bought some Morning Star beef crumbles and plan on making some tacos. I'm new and not too inventive yet but trying. Anyway, really just wanted to say thanks. Elaine |
I've always been put off becoming a vegetarian or vegan because I was worried I would be really limiting myself - but those things you've mentioned sound delicious!! Have you found yourself craving meat at all? |

I use those soy crumbles every now and then for tacos and even my meat eating hubby will eat them. The Morningstar 'bacon' is quite yummy too. My daughter's best friend who does eat meat likes it better than the real thing. My husband wont eat it on it's own but I put it in things like baked potato soup and green minestrone and he can't tell the difference. |

vegan= no animal product of any kind including dairy, honey, leather, silk, etc. I've tried twice to go vegan but the dairy is a killer to give up. I do limit leather as much as I can and buy cage free eggs but that's as far as I can go right now. |
It will be a year this May that I gave up eating meat. I have had no cravings for meat at all most likely because it just sickens me to think of eating an animal at all;) I suggest that you read Skinny Bitch and for some Ummy easy recipes, Skinny Bitch in the Kitch is a good book to have. |

Oh, I'm glad it's going so well, Elaine! And you're so welcome :) :) :). I love mushrooms and especially portabellas - YUM! I agree w/ Nikki too - I like the fake bacon - we call it "facon" :p. The fake chicken nuggets are good -- oh and Quorn is DELISH! Other fun stuff to try is seitan, tempeh, and "mock duck" (which is really seitan, basically). So happy for you, my friend! :):):) |

Wow, I just reread my post #7. Ann, is there an award for longest run on sentence in a YT post? If so, I nominate myself for consideration.:p |

We had a really good vegitarian dinner last night. We eat meat, which I buy from a "humane" farm market near me, but I like eating veggie meals here and there. The US seems to be one of the few, or possibly the only country that uses meat as a main dish instead of a side, and eats such LARGE portions of it. I try to serve smaller portions for health purposes. We had a great potato cheese souffle with sweet corn. YUM. |
Quorn I rarely eat meat for the reasons you posted above, but I do still eat eggs and dairy. One of my co-worker's is a vegan. I asked what he thought about the Quorn products after I read such great things here. Quorn isn't suitable for vegans, because I believe it has traces of egg whites, but more than that I'm not sure after doing some reading he directed me to it is something I am comfortable eating. Of course, we all make our own decisions, but I thought I'd pass it along here if anyone else wanted to read it: The Food Revolution Quorn Adverse Reaction Report I do know from reading here it seems that several members have had no problems with Quorn, but I just thought I'd mention it. :) My main concern with Boca and Morningstar Farms is the soy content, though if I only ate those products in place of when I'd eat real meat it would be fairly minimal. I tend to like the vegetarian products that don't taste like meat - e.g. I'd like a black bean burger rather than an original Boca... |
