I Feel So Useless Re:Katrina I feel so useless with everything thats been going on, re: katrina!! I wanna help, really badly but i can't think of any thing but donating money and such. what i'm really trying to do is donate but i don't have any extra money. :thumbdown Some people down the street had a lemon aid stand today and made $90 dollars for the hurrican relief, they're donating it all. :) bu, going into 7th grade, i think i'm a little old to do a lemon aid stand, lol. i'm going to start babysitting, and using some of the money to donate, but i haven't found anyone to do it for. :( does anyone have any ideas on how i can make some money? i've been reading the stories and everything and its just so sad! all of the poor families with no homes, while i sit here with a laptop, air conditioning, a comfy bed, and these people have NOTHING, its all so upsetting! :( |
You have such a big heart! You are so young and already you have adult thoughts. |
thank you so much! i don't know how anyone couldn't wanna help! i can't look at the home page of the internet for too long, the news stories make me tear up! :( |
I suppose you could just go around and collect donations, Megan, and if they won't give, tell them its a stick-up! :D Seriously, I saw a great idea this evening for something to send. Women's Ministries asked people to send gift cards, such as Wal-Mart (common stores) and phone cards. I thought it was a good idea. |
that is an awsome idea (not the stick up although that could work too! lol) i'll look into it! |
Maybe since school is starting you can talk to your teachers or administrators about taking up a collection that could be donated. I teach elementary school and when spet. 11 happened we collected money for the red cross and also collected money for gift packages for the troops. You could really do a big thing that maybe others have been thinking of ways as well. That way you don't have to donate since you do not have any money right now, but can help out by being in charge of the fundraiser. Good luck! |
thanks everyone you all have awsome ideas. i'll get started on it tomorrow. |
You might also ask if the other kids would go through their closets, and get out any clothes they don't use to donate. That's what my daughter's youth group is doing. |
Megan, You are really something extra special. When I was president of the PTO, we started a Night of the Arts fundraiser for the school. Kids got 5 minutes to do whatever they wanted on stage (sing, dance tell jokes, karate demonstrations, skits) and we sold raffle tickets for artwork donated by local artists. It was a lot of fun and the $ raised went to families in need. Another fun raffle was The Basket Bonanza. Each class was given a theme and students were asked to donate one item each to fill a basket that was raffled off. Themes were Rainy Day, Arts and Crafts, School Spirit, Outdoor Fun, Snacks, Beach Party, Picinic etc.. The really cute part was they didn't use actual 'baskets' but something from the theme to put the stuff in, gym bags, sand buckets, coolers... My favorite one is selling tickets for a night off. Busy moms and dads could buy tickets for an non-event they didn't have to go to. The wording on the tickets was a riot. |

That is very sweet of you to be thinking of others. But the news said that even if people only donated a few dollars, all would be helpful. Its the thought not the amount. :p |
