Shipping Questions! Experienced Frequent Shippers Needed! I'm starting out selling a few handmade things. Would it be better for me to buy a postal scale and print my shipping labels at home and do all that or would it be better to just take it to the postal service and let them do it for me? I haven't shipped many things. Plus, I'm a huge worrier and I want to do it the way it's going to be easiest. I just feel if I bought a scale, it'd be easier just doing everything at home then taking it and dropping it off or have it picked up. Just wanted some experienced input though! Also, does it matter what type of packaging I use if I were to do it at home with my own scale? Would I need postal service specific packaging or would just regular packaging from say... Wal-mart be alright? Any other input or advice is welcomed!!! |
I have a postal scale and print all my labels through Paypal. It's much easier to do it that way, plus both you and your customer can track the package through Paypal. I rarely have to go to the post office. I can fit several bow orders in my mailbox. I request a carrier pickup if I have an oversized package. You don't need special packing/shipping supplies. If you mail a lot like I do, it is cheaper to buy in bulk from a place like Uline rather than buy supplies at Walmart. If you plan on shipping internationally, you'll need customs forms. You can order them online (free) or pick some up at the post office. Priority boxes are free and can ordered online, too. Always make sure you get delivery confirmation. |

try stamps.com they give you a free postal scale and you can do everything from home too..:) |

I use stamps.com and have for a couple of years...I have the basic service for I think it is like 8 dollars a month with that I can only have 25 dollars in postage in my acct at a time but that's no big deal because I can keep adding as I use it up...I used to buy their sheets of blank stamp pages to print on but now I just print my stamps on blank paper and tape them onto the envelopes ...that works great and I save the money on the sheets of blanks.. I love it..:) |
you can probably use the big poly bubble mailers too for your purses (might have to fold the purse) i think they're easier to use than getting the cardboard boxes and packing tape. i always use the self service machine thing at the post office because i hate waiting in line. it has the scale attached to the machine then it prints out the postage for you. its convenient for me because i have to drop it off at the post office anyway. if you wanna do everything from home and then have them pick it up for delivery then i'd go with the scale thing and use paypal shipping. |
I am always a worrywart about shipping, so I always go to the post office just to be sure everything is all set :) |
PayPal Shipping :-) I use PaPal shipping exclusively. Everything that weighs under 13 ounces goes via USPS First Class Mail. The rates are very reasonable AND a delivery confirmation is only $.18. All packages that are over 13 ounces go out USPS priority mail or USPS Flat Rate. International orders are shipped USPS International Parcel if they are under 4 lbs. or International Priority if they are over 4 lbs. My postal scale is one of my most important pieces of equipment :). Not only for weighing outgoing packages, but also for weighing furkids, food portions, and various "things" for the boys. |
