September the 10th. Gasoline Strike Day Just wanted to share this with everyone what are your views on this thought? It was emailed to me as a forward and that it should be shared with as many people as we know. I have to wonder if this would work, for all of us to get a honest price !!!! IT HAS BEEN CALCULATED THAT IF EVERYONE IN THE UNITED STATES DID NOT PURCHASE A DROP OF GASOLINE FOR ONE DAY AND ALL AT THE SAME TIME, THE OIL COMPANIES WOULD CHOKE ON THEIR STOCKPILES. AT THE SAME TIME IT WOULD HIT THE ENTIRE INDUSTRY WITH A NET LOSS OF OVER 4.6 BILLION DOLLARS WHICH AFFECTS THE BOTTOM LINES OF THE OIL COMPANIES. THEREFORE Sept 10TH HAS BEEN FORMALLY DECLARED "STICK IT TO THEM DAY" AND THE PEOPLE OF THIS NATION SHOULD NOT BUY A SINGLE DROP OF GASOLINE THAT DAY. THE ONLY WAY THIS CAN BE DONE IS IF YOU FORWARD THIS E-MAIL TO AS MANY PEOPLE A S YOU CAN AND AS QUICKLY AS YOU CAN TO GET THE WORD OUT. WAITING ON THIS ADMINISTRATION TO STEP IN AND CONTROL THE PRICES IS NOT GOING TO HAPPEN. WHAT HAPPENED TO THE REDUCTION AND CONTROL IN PRICES THAT THE ARAB NATIONS PROMISED TWO WEEKS AGO? REMEMBER ONE THING, NOT ONLY IS THE PRICE OF GASOLINE GOING UP BUT AT THE SAME TIME AIRLINES ARE FORCED TO RAISE THEIR PRICES, TRUCKING COMPANIES ARE FORCED TO RAISE THEIR PRICES WHICH EFFECTS PRICES ON EVERYTHING THAT IS SHIPPED. THINGS LIKE FOOD, CLOTHING, BUILDING MATERIALS, MEDICAL SUPPLIES ETC. WHO PAYS IN THE END? WE DO! WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE. IF THEY DON'T GET THE MESSAGE AFTER ONE DAY, WE WILL DO IT AGAIN AND AGAIN. SO DO YOUR PART AND SPREAD THE WORD. FORWARD |
Thanks for posting that, Sue. I've forwarded it on. That's my birthday, so I think it will be really easy for my friends and family to remember the date! |

However, with the gasoline shortage going on (the summer supply, that is...the winter supply is ready to go but hasn't even been tapped into yet) but with the so-called "shortage" going on, it wouldl seem that a "gasoline strike" would be more than welcomed by gas companies, don't you think? And of COURSE Sully is going with us! :p He goes everywhere with us. And besides, he has to pick out which condo he likes best too! Everyone's opinions count in our little family *hehe* |
lol, good thats what i thought, just making sure! i'm sure sully will pick out a good condo, but you know these guys, don't show him any 1 million dollar home! ;) |
Just to clarify....if no one gets gas on september the 10th the oil companies will not care. Because people will fill their tanks between 6th and the 13th. If you really think about it the entire nation does not purchase gas on the same day. Only a percent of the nation would be getting gas on September the 10. Another percent will need gas on thw 11th. The only real way to put a dent in the pocket of oil companies is to cut back on driving all together. Sure people complain about the high gas prices...but does that mean they quit using gas all together? No, and here's why. People need to get to work, school, grocery store, and recreational activities. Since gas prices have gone up have anyone of you cut back on driving? I know I haven't because I still need to get to school and to work. I am traveling the same amount of miles as I was before. The only difference is that my pay rate is still the same. Gas prices have gone up +50% since January of this year. I don't know about everyone else but about 25% of my paycheck goes to gas. Did I get a 12.5% pay increase to cover my gas cost.....NO!!!! but that's how much extra is now coming out of my check. It only seems fair doesn't it. The cost of living continues to increase and pay does not. I believe the government should step in and raise wages. People can no longer afford to live off of what they are currently making. To be honest gas is expensive because of the high cost of refining the crude oil. the United States has not built a refinary in 20 some years. This is because of the tree hugging librials who place high environment friendly regulations on refinaries. Companies cannot make the cheap gas they once could because their method's were "harmful" to the environment. So I say choose. If you are going to complain about big industry harming the environment then don't complain about high gas prices and if high gas prices upset you, don't complain about refinaries harming the environment. That just my .02 **edit** Brett (I didn't realize that Kelz keeps using my laptop and signing me off of my name) |

I HAVE cut back on my gas usage. In fact, I havent gotten gas since the day after Katrina struck and I'm still above 3/4 of a tank. I filled up the day after Katrina (fearing that the reports of $3 gas would be true .. thankful I did!), and I'm cutting back my usage until gas goes back down around here. It's just too expensive for my poor college student budget. |
What???? The government has been begging people not to use gas because there is such a shortage and the oil companies have been doing the same!!! |
what??? The government and oil companies have been begging us to use less gas since Katrina because of the extreme shortage. |

Bump since this is coming up |
This same type of email has been circulating ever since the Gulf War. (I'm going to use the terms oil and gas interchangeably) Oil/gas is a comsumeable. Sooner or later, we will have to consume gas. Just because we strike for a single day...that is not going to do anything significant. You can believe this false email all you want, but in the end...you will still consume the same amount of gas UNLESS you do something significant, like drive an electric car forever. Think of it this way. You use cooking oil when you cook right? What happens if you don't cook w/ it? It sits. But sooner or later, you'll end up using the stuff. Okay. So you decide to purchase oil a day or two ahead of the strike. Guess what? It will not matter. Because spread over time, you will still consume the same amount of oil. The only difference is you went a day ahead, thereby the gas companies have a slight increase in consumption for a single day in their accounting books. But the next day, there is a slight decrease in consumption. By the third day, things are...generally speaking...back to normal consumption levels. So unless everyone agrees to drive a Toyota Prius or Honda Insight for a significant period of time...you are not going to really affect the gas companies as much as this email leads you to believe. Read the first paragraph. So if everyone stops being gas for a day, the oil companies will have problems stockpiling their oil? This would be true IF everyone was to participate. But have you seen the people outside of supermarkets taking polls? How many people walk right past them versus how many actually sign up? You'll be hard pressed to get even 10% of the population to agree w/ this supposed gas strike. Second paragraph. So it will result in a net loss of $4.6 billion dollars. Not if consumption levels return to normal the following day. I agree there will be a loss, but not at the amount this email implies. Let me skip directly to the "remember one thing" part. I agree that the price for gas will always go up. But that is a result of inflation. Prices will NEVER go down. The airlines are raising prices because they will bills they can't pay. And if they can't pay it, they will file for bankrptcy. Also, they will let people go. Letting people go, means more unemployment. More unemployment means less consumer spending. I can go on.... But basically, don't believe this email. It doesn't do much when you look at the whole picture. |
have the strike if you want, they would love it. Have you heard the word KATRINA!! |

Good thread...food for thought. We just need to find a way to consume less...thats it. Francie |
