Anyone got saltwater fish? I have had a 30 gal saltwater tank for a little over a year. I had a 70 gal but after losing too many expensive fish to weird happenings(psycho crabs, stressing out, pregnant crab polluting water  ) we converted it to a freshwater tank. So anyways I only have hermit crabs and damsels in my 30 gal right now but I want to get a new fish tommorrow. I havent been able to get a "cool" fish for a long time because I had this mean but awesome calico crab (big guy) that would eat all the sand dwellers or anything that was slow. SO thats why I only have damsels. BUt he passed away :( . It was sad because we had him a year. BUt now its been several weeks and the tank is ready for a new fish. Anyone have suggestions? I LOVE gobies, they are my favorite. But I need something small and semi aggressive that can go well with damsels. |
i don't but i will someday. i think they are so beautiful and i want one so bad. i'm sorry your crab died!!! good luck finding your new scalebabies! LMAO (i crack myself up!!! lol, sorry) |
3 Attachment(s) I don't have a saltwater tank but I have a 55 gallon freshwater. I bought the tiger barbs first without realizing that they could be fin nippers so I had to add other semi-aggressive fish to the tank. I have 3 blood parrot cichlids, 7 tiger barbs, 6 giant danios, 3 cory catfish and a common pleco. They all seem to get along fine. Well the cichlids sometimes fight amongst themselves though! Here's a couple of pictures. |
Do Damsels look like angle fish. My dad has a saltwater tank....100 gallons i think. It's not doing real well. He has lots of collar and see eneminies. We had a damsel (if that's the angle fish looking fish) and a clown fish for a long time. The damsel passed, but the clown fish is still alive and kicking. the clown fish protected the damsel from the other things in the tank they were like buddies and they are very harty fish, but i think they can be aggressive. |

I attached a pic of one of my hermit crabs and damsel fish. Damsel come in all different shapes and sizes but I guess some could look like angelfish. I went to the fish store today and I bought a clown goby which is one of my favorite fish- so I was very excited. I also got a Tomato clown fish. I tried to take pics, but they didnt show up so I borrowed 2 pics from one of my favorite websites: www.liveaquaria.com |

Gorgeous fish. I love your blood parrot cichlids. I have a community freshwater tanks so I cant get anything aggressive. But I have 2 dragonfish gobies and they are awesome. They look prehistoric. I also have 3 pygmy pufferfish, 2 blueknight gobies, 3 hatchetfish, 2 silver tip catfish, 1 black spotted catfish, 1 common pleco, and 1 albino pleco. |
I know Maria (Bella and Patton's mom) has a saltwater tank and could probably give you some good suggestions. Try pm ing her. |
I dont have a tank now. We did had a Betta fish but died recently. I just wanted to say that I love Brutu's pics of the aquarium, awesome. Gorgeous fish. I love fish tanks but not the work to maintained them so thats why we dont own one. We had a 10 gall freshwater tank years ago with a couple angel fish and a catfish. We ended up giving the tank to our neighbor cause noone wanted to clean the tank. The tank was my hubby and son and of course it always was my job to clean it, until I just had enough. I love to see the fishes on the tank, I think is so relaxing. I just dont have the patience to deal with mainting PH and all, I always got so confused, sometimes my fish kept dying so I just said no more. My cousin had 2 huge saltwater tanks. He had some awesome fish. He ended up selling one tank cause it was too much work. OOPs sorry for my long post. |
SCALEBABIES HAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA That was a good one :animal36 :animal36 |
we have a 55 gallon tank that we had a freshwater community for years but when we moved a year ago we gave them to my younger brother we fully intend on starting a saltwater tank just hate to start it then move again...we have moved once a year for the past 4 yrs so you can tell not quite "settled" into one place. |

They are a lot of work. WE have lost several very expensive fish in our saltwater tank because the ph was slightly off. We dont buy any saltwater fish that are not considered "easy or hardy" fish now. But we love fish. Freshwater tanks are super easy though(besides the cleaning). My husband and I love fish. I love my saltwater tank because it reminds me of the carribeans and when we go snorkeling :) . I even have pieces of dead coral(that washed up on the beach) from our trips in the tank so its special to me. |
Hi Shana, Good to hear others have are also hobbyist of saltwater fish! They are beautiful indeed. I have two saltwater fish tanks, one a 75 gallon fish only tank, and the other a 55 gallon reef tank. I started with my 75 gallon and also had a lot of fatalities particularly in the beginning, but had been doing well until the last three weeks, when I've lost two nice fish, a green sea wrasse who I had for almost two years, and a nice sized yellow tang. So, now I am in the process of replacing the two I've lost with some new ones. The fish only tank is fairly aggressive due to having a nigger trigger along with a red flame dwarf angel. Actually, I am concerned about the angel now that he is alone with my trigger. I also have the reef tank and I have some more delicate fish, including a pygmy angel(that is pretty cool), have a Kole Tang(nice size but so funny he was afraid of the smaller fish when I introduced him to the tank about five months ago), two cardinals whom I have had almost two years(they are kind of ugly but very hardy), a firefish(these are very pretty), a cleaner shrimp(beautiful and interesting to watch other fish let the shrimp clean them from parasites)about 6 hermit crabs, and another crab who came inside the live rock when I got the rock, who has grown a lot and I may have to trade him at some point. I also have several corals in the reef tank. They are amazing and I love the hobby, but you have to be careful who you to introduce to your tanks. Once you have them going, it is pretty easy to manage. They are not only beautiful, but so relaxing and fun to watch. I would love to talk with you more. PM if you'd like. |
I dont have saltwater. I have a 125 gal aquarium with freshwater. When my fish die I want to try saltwater. |

Wow, I bet your tanks are beautiful. If I had enough room in my house I would have several tanks. I love triggers (especially picasso triggers) but I would have to have an aggressive tank which means I need another one room  . I had purchased some crabs that I didnt know would be mean, such as an arrow crab that literally grew to have a leg span of 10 inches. That crab scared the crap out of me. He also killed my $50 volitan lionfish(this is when I had my 70 gallon saltwater tank). My hubby was so devasted I had to trade in that crab(with pleasure). BUt other than that I havent had any problems with introducing the wrong fish. I always research the fish before purchaseing them. Didnt think about a crab being that aggressive. I did have a fish eat my horseshoe crab though :( . I just had bad luck with the ph balance. Or I had fish stress out. I had a yellow tang get stuck to the filter. I helped him get away from it and he seemed fine, but he stressed out and died :( . SO far my 2 new ones are doing good and eating and all seem well. They are so much fun to watch. I will have to look up a kole tang. I havent heard of that. Are shrimp hardy? I would love to get a shrimp especially if I get a watchman goby since I knwo they like to buddy up. |
When I change over to saltwater I would love to have some seahorses after my tank was established enough. They are so delicate. The Reef a pet store near us sell the beautiful yellow ones with the fan tails. |
