As Time Goes By Does anyone else love the British comedy "As Time Goes By"? -- I really think it is one of, if not the best tv shows ever. I absolutely love it, and I believe I have seen ever episode from all their years - several times. I think it was on for 10 yrs. It was where I first fell in love with the acting talents of Judi Dench - she is amazing! Anyway, tonight - 2 of the stars from the show, Moira Brooker, who played Judith, and Jenny Funnell, who played Sandy, are here in Iowa. They were doing the promotion for Festival - what the fundraising is called here for PBS -- they showed the reunion special from "As Time Goes By" and of course had all the breaks to encourage people to support their public television local station. They recorded segments that will be shown to everyone that runs the special on PBS - and then the actresses & hosts did a couple lighter segments & said this is only for the Iowa audience :) -- I wish I had volunteered to go take calls tonight at the station, so I could have met them. Who else watches British comedies? This is really my favorite, but I do sometimes watch "Keeping up Appearances" - my daughter loves this one a lot. You just never know what Hyacinth is going to do or say :p Some of the others they show on my local PBS station, I don't care for so much - but they used to show sometimes this crazy one about a gal who marries a guy from another planet - it was amusing, but I don't know the name of it |
I love the British comedies too!!! And As Time Goes By is one of my favorites. I can watch those episodes over and over!!! I also like Keeping Up Appearances and one of my favorites is The Vicar of Dibly (or Dilby???) There are some that I just don't like though - My Family - I think is the name, and I just can't get into that one. I sometimes watch Last of Summer Wine, but again, I'm not into it as much as the others. Did you know that some of them are on SurfTHeChannel.com When I am bored, I'll watch them on my computer. I saw an episode of Vicar there, that I had never seen before. |
No, I think it's My Hero, not My Family - that I just can't get into. LOL! |
yes, I sometimes watch the Vicar of D. -- but I have never figured out when exactly they air that here, & I usually just happen upon it. No, I haven't watched them on SCT - I've spent waaaaaaay tooooo much time watching other shows & movies on STC  |
Everybody at our house LOVES As Time Goes By. Our local PBS runs it over and over again -- we've watched it so many times we can recite the dialogue. Even Oliver! Another current favorite is New Tricks. Tremendous ensemble work by hugely likeable characters. |
I do like "As Times Goes By", but absolutely love "Keeping Up Appearances". It is one of those shows I actually will laugh out loud at, and am even embarrassed sometimes for Hyacinth. I see Hyacinth as the British equivalent of Lucille Ball. That would have been too cool to meet the actors! |

It was funny last night, they asked Moira about how the reunion series for As Time Goes By - and she said she thought it was in part due to the HUGE demand for more episodes from the Americans ;) |
I haven't seen New Tricks either, I'll have to look for it. |

Also, I love the theme music for As Time Goes By - I never turn the channel until they play it all out "You Must Remember This, A Kiss Is Still A Kiss" |
I love the As Time Goes By theme too!!! It's so soothingly romantic! I also love the Vicar of Dibly theme song too :D |
OH! I love the Brit Coms. As Time Goes By is my husband favorite. I enjoy Keeping Up Appearances, and Are You Being Served. When "mrs. slocum" talks about her cat, it just has me rolling on the floor laughing!!!! if you watch that show, you will know what I mean. ;) When my mom was alive she too Rofl'd over that one! Last of the Summer Wine can be good too. There was a newer one called My Hero that I liked but they don't show it on our PBS's anymore. |
I love this show!!!! Keeping up Appearences is another fav! The one I really like doesn't come on anymore and I can't think of the name, it had to do with a retirement home and man was that lady mean LOL LOVED IT! I love Britcoms! Donna Bird |
I got hooked on "Are You Being Served?" |

I started watching Fawlty Towers way back years ago - that's the one that got me hooked on British comedy. Then the movie A Fish Called Wanda - if you haven't seen that it is hilarious. John Cleese was just over the top and I LOVED his part in the movie, especially when he was caught with (ahem) no clothes! That is CLASSIC British comedy. |
