I had a problem with a "religious group" every week when I first bought my house. When I saw them coming, I'd go on the front porch, tell them I wasn't interested and not to come back, then go inside and close the door. It didn't work! It continued for a YEAR! Every Saturday morning - until one time they knocked just as I was getting out of bed. I went outside in full pj regalia - told them that if they came back again I was going to call 911 and have their asses locked up for trespassing! Then I called the sheriff's department and asked them - very up front - if I COULD have them locked up for trespassing and was told that since I'd warned them and asked them repeatedly not to come back - that I could. I also put a BIG sign on the post beside the steps that says "NO ___________". I called their local headquarters and told the head knocker that if they showed up on my property one more time, they were going to jail and that I WOULD press charges. They haven't been back in 8 months and counting. You gotta do what you gotta do............ |

This thread brings back memories of my Mother trying to *pretend* she wasn't home when the JW's would come by for a visit. She was always too polite to just excuse herself. And they were always too persistent to notice a young mom w/ seven kids that didn't have time for their "chats". LOL....with seven of us kids running around, you can imagine what it was like for her trying to hide from them :D As kids, we were innocent and didn't understand why she was hiding in her bedroom when "those men" came to the door. Once my little sister told them, "My Mom said she's not home":p Mostly we get JW's, tree services and the fruit peddlers..... and at least with the JW's I'm not too worried about being attacked. I'm more honest with them than my Mother was, I politely tell them "No, thank you" and shut the door. |

These venting threads actually do help; I feel better after reading the replies. At least I know I'm not alone. Had to laugh at the descriptions of what some of you have done, especially chloesMama, xmasbaby75, and MyLadies. I've been thinking about doing the definition thing too. We only get religious solicitors, Jehovah Witnesses and Mormons, perhaps if I could find a sign that said "No Religious Solicitors" it would help. I use to just say, I wasn't interested, and never got angry, but now that I have a sign, and they say that they didn't know what the word solictor meant, I just feel angry, because I think they are lying to me, and while I expect a salesman to lie, I don’t expect it from someone who is trying to convince me that they have some religious insight. |
Gosh I feel so blessed now that I moved NO ONE comes to the door.... Oh.. I shouldn't have said that. Now they'll come. LOL. Another thing (not sure if anyone mentioned this yet or not) but in the city I used to live in there were alot of Home Invasions and this was a tactic they used... pretending to be a door-to-door this or that just to see if anyone was at home. I saw quite a few shady characters come to the door. Alot of times I didn't answer (dogs going crazy all the while). I was gonna install a camera at the door also, but never got around to it. (to help me see who was there) ... Cuz sometimes they'd come in the dark. Once I really screamed at someone for coming in the dark..and they said "oh it's just 7:00 pm!".. well I don't care -- it was DARK!! Kinda spooky when you can't really see who's out there even with a light on. |

Actually, the camera idea is a pretty good, one, I'm usually at the computer anyway. Prices for home black and white cameras for security are really cheap too. I just want to get a speaker too, something that yells at them. :D |

This reminds me of last summer, We had 2 guys come to the door and they were selling meat  Yeah, all kinds of frozen steaks , Like i would buy meat off the street  If hub would not of been home, I dont answer ! We have the neighbor hood watch sign on our front and back door, It does seem to help some, We also have a big beware of the dog sign :D I hate to turn people away trying hard to work for there familys with the times being so rough, But you cant trust anyone either ! Its just not safe . |
My bestfriend would be so mad seeing postss about what some jehovah witnesses do but it is true. My mom just does not answer the door. Yesterday a man approached my brother and my little cousin and gave them a paper about religion and my mom told my brother that he should never accept anything from strangers and told him to throw the paper away in the outside dumpster. With Kirby arggh my grandmother did not want them to come in at all and even though she said no they still came and talked my grandfather into buying from them. My grandmother was furious! She still talks about the price she paid for it and how she would have not if it was not for my grandfather wanting it so bad. Also they stayed sooo long, it really does not make sense no means noo! I can't tell you the many times the book sellers have came to my grandparents house and took their money without sending them a book. It is really sad. I hope no one has a problem with girl scouts asking you to buy cookies in the nieghborhood : ). I use to be a girl scout and was really scared to ask when my friend and I were selling cookies together. |
