CAT owners: How to stop chewing?? My cat chews on everything: furniture, LINENS, cords for blinds, etc. Last night I bought a side table that has rattan tied around the joints and I KNOW it won't be much longer until she discovers these and starts chewing on it. Does anyone know of any remedies to prevent this from happening?? I prefer natural remedies as opposed to stuff from the pet store but I am open-minded! Thanks! |
Probably the same thing that you use on Yorkies, Bitter Apple Spray worked for Joey, and some people suggest rubbing clear deodorant on the article in question. These things would work for chewing not clawing. Of course give them plenty of appropriate things to chew on. One idea is a drinking straw, tied with a knot, it makes a great interactive toy and they like to chew on the knot. |
I was in a pet store and a lady asked me for advice, since I was in the cat section. She asked if my cats chewed on anything and I was taken aback because I didn't think cats did this stuff! Her cat chewed on everything and would eat anything, rubber bands, toilet paper, paper clips. I didn't have any advice for her but she said her vet suggested a kong like toy where you can put treats in, to distract the cat. There were some like chew type things for cats in the cat area. Next to the hairball stuff and shampoos etc. So, I suppose I would suggest distracting your cat with some other items, like bully sticks. My cat's always trying to chew Mahinas. Or like Nancy said, you could try the bitter apple spray... or a citrus spray, as cats don't like the smell of it, to keep him/her away from stuff. |
Does she have thing's to keep her busy Toy's/ climbing thing's Etc??.. Most of the time Bad behavior in cat's is just boredom. |
Scratching I could help with ...chewing....hmmmm, no. |
I would try Tabasco sauce, I also have used dish soap. I put clear tape on my chair to keep them from digging it up. |
Yeah, she doesn't really scratch- only chew. She doesn't like toys or treats (or wet food for that matter :p). She even really gets offended when we tried to change her food. She's strange. Thanks everyone! |
Yep, I was going to say spray Bitter Apple spray on things she likes to chew. One of my cats was a chewer, but she grew out of it ... sort of, I still catch her every now & then. She had an extension cord fetish... crazy cat!! Lots of Bitter Apple was sprayed on this one cord that ran from a lamp behind the couch. She still lives to this day! 8 years & running! :p |
