Anyone else looking for a job?? I have been looking for a job for six month!!I have applied from anywheres to departments stores, walmarts, meijers, every gas station and even fast food places and not 1 single phone call in six months! What the hell! The only job interview i have had was last month and its for a casino opening and they are hiring 1500 people and over 35 thousand people applied!!So my hopes are not to high and it does not even open till the end of summer. My long time boyfriend has a good and stable job but i would like some of my own money.I wish i could afford to go back to school!Just a vent! |
Why not go back to school? Aren't there grants available in your area that will pay or help pay for it? It might be the best thing you've ever done for yourself...you can never go wrong when you invest in yourself. |
Yes there are grants in my area and i am on a waiting list that can take up to 3 years so in the mean time its either pay for it out of pocket or work. |
Do you qualify for federal financial aid? Without help from the government, I would not be able to pay for college either. Good luck to you! |
I've been looking for a job myself now for about 2 months. It's pretty depressing. If you can take the time to go back to school, go for it. A lot of the listings show that they are looking for a 4 yr degree. I have a 2 yr one and tons of experience but it's been really slow going. With computers today, it certainly does not hurt to be well versed in that to compete in the work force. Good luck! |
Do you have free job search services there? We have them here. They are funded by the government and are run by non-profits. They generally have really educated staff that provide group workshops and often one on one consults re resume writing, interviewing, hidden job market etc. If you have a place like this they can often be a big help. Try to stay positive and let everyone know you are looking for work, typically networking in the best way to find work. |
Take a visit to your unemployment office.. they have listings there. Sign up for accounts with monster, hotjobs, and careerbuilder and just go down the line applying for stuff. When my husband was looking for a job that's what we did... just went down the line... I didn't even read the descriptions. I figured that if he wasn't qualified, they wouldn't call. Also, try craigslist. I would also go down through the phone book and look through offices and just put your resume in. If they don't have an opening right now, well, then they have your resume for the future. Look in your newspaper and see whats hiring. |
This is no reflection on you because I have no idea if it pertains to you but.... I own a gift shop so here are some tips. -dress appropriately. No jeans, muffin top, shorts, dirty clothes etc -make sure your clean & your hair is done....don't forget makeup - don't go applying for a job 1)with a friend in tow 2) while you are eating something 3)with children in tow - bring all the info you need to fill out an app & fill it out completely. The best thing to do is take it with you & come back with it TOTALLY complete. - Don't ask how much they pay. Your first impression is important & if you come in looking like you don't really want a job...that app goes in the trash. You will NEVER get a second chance to make a first impression. |
I am! I'm looking for a temporary job just to have money in my pockets. Right now i have no bills but i need to go clothes shopping for the summer and also save up for when i move out. Also for a car. My bf is also working and paying off bills, he works at a restaurant and wants to be a chef. Right now less places are hiring but hopefully i can get a job quick. |
Well, seeing what state you are in explains it. Just looking in the Detroit News with only about 7 help wanted ads (when there used to be pages) is pretty scary... I think our unemployment rate is around 10%. I would be very thankful that your boyfriend has a good job. :) And while going back to school may be a very good move, that is hard to say. It certainly won't guarantee a job here. :( If you have a degree already, have you look into online work like Google? |
You're not alone in the looking for a job department. For a good two months I've been looking. I'm in graduate school right now so I was looking for something part time this semester and then eventually full time once I have my masters in August. Well I've received a few email/phone/letter "thank you but no". It used to be with a high school diploma you were set. And then it became with a college degree you were a sure thing. Now, not to scare anyone, a lot of industries want a graduate degree. I'm paying for this second year of my masters program with government loans, I couldn't finish school without them. But when I enter the world of social work (I know, don't even say anything about social work and no money) I'll have over $25k of loans. So they've made it possible for me to graduate but they're not exactly going to go away easily. All the same I'm staying positive and hoping things work out! :) |
Have you applied at any banks? The bank I work at is hiring all the time.Have you updated it your resume lately? Having a well written resume helps a lot. Good luck on your job search! |
Thanks for all the replies.I have applied at the unemployment agencies, michigan works, trillium staffing solutions, time everything!Like Ellie May said i thinks its mostly because i live in Michigan and we have the second highest unemployment rate in america.Im going to keep looking i guess thats all i can do.Blahhhhhhhh!!!!! |
