How to get health insurance if your job doesn't provide it?
 
You ladies (and gents?) are always so knowledgeable, I thought you might be able to help me out. I need to find some affordable health insurance. Just some background..I graduated college so I am no longer a student. I am only working part time at a restaurant for the moment. It's just for me, a healthy, 24 year old female. And ideas where I can go? Ideally, I'd like something with a low monthly rate.. Thanks!

I would just google health insurance companies and find the lowest quote that fits your needs.

Yea, that was my first movie. I just want to see if anyone has any other ideas or advice. I don't want to be scammed into something..

What ever you do, make sure you are getting,an HMO, or a PPO, but NO discount plans.

What companies are you looking at? Before signing up for anything, google reviews on the company and make sure it is a reputable company. I know some in my area are Blue Cross Blue Shield, Cigna, Aetna, Kaiser, etc. Post on here what companies you are looking into and maybe someone can give you some advice. I will say personally, although a little more expensive, I like PPO plans because you don't need to go to your primary care in order to see a specialist.

I am self-employed and i use Reserve National. their website is

I really like it and i checked with my doctors office to make sure they were good about paying and what their reputation was. The lady i know that does the insurance said they are a really good company.

i haven't had any trouble with them. they pay like they are supposed to and they are very reasonable priced. i have me and my 2 teenage daughters on it and i pay $228 a month. that includes their accident plan.

if you have any questions just pm me and let me know. i've been very pleased with this company and they've been in business since 1956 i think.

Holy moly! That's cheaper than what I pay through my company I work for. I pay a little less than that every two weeks! Pfft Next year, I'm looking into that company!

My 23 year old dtr was only covered under her dad's policy until September 08 so I called my car insurance agent and he gave me the name of someone he knows who does health ins. I got my dtr covered with a 1000.00 deductible for 89.00 a month. You can pay more and have a lower deductible. It was through Assurant health/ Time Insurance company and you can go month to month. If you want more info let me know.

yeah i know they have all kinds of coverage. i have the plan that it's not the cheapest but not the most expensive. we hardly ever go to the doctor so i had to get something just in case something happened.
i also get 2 doctor visit's a year for 20.00....you don't have to meet the deductible for this either. and your allowed so much money for a mammogram each year without paying the deductible. I don't have a prescription card....they gave me a prescription discount card. and it has really saved me some money. but they do have plans that cost more if you want the prescription card.

my deductible is high it's 1500.00 but i can always get a different plan if i want later.

i'm glad i found this company though....:)
