Quick question Is there any way to look at the history of the comp if it has been deleted? i am on mozilla firefox |
dont think so. |
I'm sure there is a way, although IDK the first thing about retrieving the history after it's been deleted. I would think so though because of all the crime investigations you hear of anymore, where the police have gone back through someone's computer history and found incriminating evidence. |
Maybe they have software. But i just know there's another easier way w/o software but im not an expert on computers :( I really need to |
it is really hard to explain, but they have software that reads the sectors on a hard disk. That will read the erased parts too if they haven't been overwritten. But it has to be done in DOS |
I'm pretty sure if it's already been deleted, it's pretty much gone unless you have software to pull it back up. Hope it's nothing important that you're looking for.:( |
If you are just looking to find out sites the have been looked at recently-go to history on the firefox top bar, then from the drop down menu select show all history. |
I did that but it was deleted...i need a website i was on before, its really important and i forgot what it was |

I know it's possible to still find the history after it's been deleted I just don't know how they do it. The process is more involved than what I know how to do. |
If you found the site using a search engine you can try a similar search and bring up cached versions ( you will see that listed in the search)and it may bring up the old link. You can also back date (System restore ) your computer to a day you know they were in the history. BUT you must check your virus scan to make sure the day you choose was a clear virus free day on your computer ( check your scan records) AND any thing put into or downloaded after that date may not work properly. Or you can check your index.dat files but you will need a index.dat reader ( some are free to download..BUT make to virus scan them first) Limit your search to C drive Click advanced search files search files/folders search sub folders click print to minimize results look for NON TEXT files *that's when you need your index.dat reader tool to read these files The easiest is to restore a date , BUT you will lose info you have added after. If it was only a day or so ago and your computer was virus free at that time, It wont hurt. Firefox is sometimes harder to bring index files up , so I would probably restore date. |

Have you checked your temporary internet files or was that deleted with the history? |

Just in case you did something different: go to control panel> internet options> under history click settings> view files |
I started a thread today titled 'laptop question'. There are several links to computer help forums- maybe one of them will help. |

It depends on your computer system but usually you can click on the start menu , click on control panel , then click on performance and maintenance and you should see something that says system restore....click on that and it will bring up the system restore box asking if you want to either set your computer back to a previous date or if you want to set a future restore date. Click on set to previous date ( like I said before make sure it is a virus free date ) and simply set your computer back to that date ( it will tell you how...but again, any files you downloaded or new info you stored after the date you take it back to may not work properly or at all ) * to check/find a virus free date just go to whatever security system your computer is using ( the icon should show with all your others) and look at the virus scan dates and details/results closest to when you want to set the new date to and make sure everything was virus free at the particular time and date that you want to use.* This usually works for me if I get hijacked or a bug in my computer and I have bought up old files this way , so I hope it works for ya. |
