Lost my job today...
 
I guess the thread's title says it all...I had a GREAT job at an internationally known company (won't say the name here) and was let go today. I'm so upset that I don't even know what to do with myself :( :( The thing is, it was SO stupid! Basically I was let go because there was spyware on my computer. Since I was on the Internet team, it was a big deal. But I don't know how it got there! :cry: *sigh* Sorry...I know I don't post a lot, but I'm always around to read posts...just needed to vent :(

At least Lexi and Oliver will be happy to have mommy home for a while

We had spyware on our other computer...and had to take it in to be cleared up and removed...
This computer has a scan..and spyware protecter...seems that your company should also have those installed on their computers..
I'm really sorry...it doesn't seem really fair~

I am certainly sorry to hear about your job loss. I do not understand computers at all..for all I know I could have anything on this one I have..and totally not know where it came from...best wishes

It's their loss, Sugar. And don't they know that spyware can be downloaded without the "owner" of the computer being aware of it?? It doesn't seem very fair that they were quick to judge and then fire you. Good riddance to them. God will open another door for you! Count on it. Put your trust and faith in Him only.

I think you might have a good chance at prevailing in a wrongful termination suit if you chose to challenge their decision. I am so sorry .. it was totaal unfair given the prevalence of spyware for them to take this action imo.

I'm so sorry to hear that. But what exactly is 'spyware on your computer'? Is that some type of virus? And if you're on an Internet team, wouldn't that be an expected occupational hazzard? If they can get into the major credit card companies and the Pentagon, what chance do you stand? Certainly you should have some recourse...

I hope you got appropriate severance, and if not, I would look into it. I know it's hard to think of it now while your still in shock, but it sounds to me like a lame excuse.

It seems like everyone that works at my internationally known company that gets 'let go' ends up suing the company, winning huge settlements, and living happily-ever-after. I've often thought that I would like to be fired so I could take some time off, maybe take an extended vacation in Europe or go back to school for my masters. Heck, it's worked for everybody else!

Sorry, I've lived in Jersey too long haven't I! It just doesn't sound right.

Keep us posted and good luck. If it's not against the rules, maybe you can network on YT to find your next job.

Thats totally stinks, I'm so sorry for you.. But spyware can come from any website.. My sister kids were at my house for about 4 days and I had 216 spy things on my computer..
Words of wisdom, Pick yourself up and go out and get another great job, YOU CAN DO IT

My goodness. That is terrible news - just devastating!

I can't imagine your company firing you for that. It's impossible to keep all spyware and adware off of our computer. Just think how many hours a day McAfee & Norton spend upgrading their software to catch all the new stuff that hackers try to get in!

I'm sorry about your job. Can they prove that it was there because of you? If not, you may have grounds for a lawsuit. Unless there are clearly defined rules there, it just seems wrong to fire you for that...

I'm sorry to hear that! I know how you feel, I was let go from my job last year at the plant but it was because they were having another lay-off. Keep your chin up and the right job will come along. :(

Wow, that hardly seems reason enough for termination. I'm so sorry. Better things will come your way. I always have to tell myself that everything happens for a reason. Please keep us updated on your situation.

IT was a good idea coming here to vent .everyone here are very nice and understanding. im sure reading all the nice things everyone has written to you may be helping you get your mind off the awful news. But i can understand you. I lost my job before, and i just thought my life was over. But a new chapter began. It may also take time to find one ,keep that in mind. Now your just going to have to work more for work. I just hope you were with the company long enough to get unemployment.And if that is the case you should be fine. Just regroup and make plans for the next move. Life is funny like that. Im sure you would have never thought this was going to happen today but you have to roll with the punches of life
