Does anyone post on Craigslist? I was thinking about posting a few things on Craigslist but I've read about it being full of scammers. Does anyone list on there? I know a lot of the scams are with puppies but I would be listing in real estate and merchandise for sale. Do you think those categories would be risky? For those who list, have you had any issues or problems with their site or potential buyers? I tried to read their terms of use but OMG I think my eyes started to cross! |
I just listed a couple of items a couple of weeks ago....and I sold one of my bikes on CL really quickly. I put in all the necessary info that anyone would need or want, put the price and said CASH ONLY. They tell you right on there to be careful and meet people in a public place, but b/c of the situation (it would have been difficult for me to transport a bike much of anywhere b/c I don't have a truck or SUV and b/c I spoke to the person who was interested, he had to drive an hour to even see the bike and he just seemed pretty trustworthy)....but I think normally I would prefer to meet someone elsewhere. Also, depending on what you're selling, or more, how much you're selling it for, I'd request the money to not be in large bills b/c so many are counterfeit. And there's no way I'd take a money order or a check. I am very pleased with the bike sale! Now...if I could just sell the wedding dress, LOL. |
The categories I would be using are real estate, merchandise and boats. Sorry...I don't need a wedding dress so I can't help you there... |
I think it's a great way to sell stuff without going thru a lot of hassle which is what it was set up for basically. I don't think you'd have any problems as far as scammers go as long as you read the warnings that are posted on CL and heed them. Good luck with it. |
I just posted two furniture items on Craigs List and got at least two scam replies. Just for fun I played around with one of them by replying to their e-mail that I do not accept cashiers checks. No deal...SCAMMER. Never heard back from them but it made me feel better. Both scam replies wanted to pay by cashiers check and have their shipper pick up the merchandise. All you have to do is ignore them and not reply. Other than that I had no problems. These days though I make sure my husband's home whenever someone wants to view an item. |
I just put one on looking for house to rent in Florida. So far no takers, but no scams either. |

Be careful with craigslist. You can get a lot of good sales and stuff, but you can get a lot of scammers too. I've posted lots of ads for our basement for rent and some random stuff to sell... a lot have been scammers. |

I posted a couple of things for sale and I think it works for stuff like furniture, small electronics, and things like that. It's like an online garage sale :) I know some people are scammers, but you just need to be careful and smart. |

We sold our fifth wheel on CL, quickly, and without scammers. |
We've sold a few things on Craigslist before. We even found our cat via Craigslist. Her foster posted her on there. I love Craigslist. :) |
I haven't posted on there but you said you would be listing in real estate and merchandise, and I personally look on there through the real estate stuff to see what's out there. I wouldn't think that those areas would be bad. |
Give it a try! I like craigslist beacuse it's free and easy to use, you just have to be careful about who responds to your ads (especially if you have to meet face to face eventually to exchange something). You can usually tell by the tone, grammar, spelling and content of anemail response if a person is legitimate or if it's someone that's using Craigslist to scam people. Just be smart about it :) |
I LOVE CL.....I just met someone today and last night and picked up somethings for my baby. I met someone yesterday and the night before and sold some things of hers. I love that its local and you can meet in a public place and see what yur buying or collect cash for what your selling. Good Luck, Angie |

My daughter bought a used dinning set from CL but it was local ad and she was able to meet the person at there storage place, she also did NOT go alone , There are some honest people that do sell nice things, Just be careful ;) |
Hubby put our SUV on CL a while back and we got a scammer response. So much so that they even sent a check! We knew right away though that it was a scam. I have a friend who sold her car on CL, no problems. I am going to get some smaller items together and try those on CL as soon as I get some time. I would suggest not putting your phone # or email address, you never know who is looking and I wouldn't want that info out there. There are some legit people but there are also some not. Good luck. |
I have bought and sold things on Craigslist. Just becareful and meet in a public place. I never give my address out. Also I would only take cash. |
I've posted several things on craigslist, but I think they were all free things. I would give it a try. It's free and everybody knows about it! ;) Good luck with your sales!!! ;) :D :) |
