Waitresses. . . Any of you guys who are waitresses i have a newfound respect for you guys. So at work they are training me to be a server, cuz on sundays they are short handed. Anyway, I got trained in last week, so I served today. So today this family of for comes in I take their order and all is fine and dandy. I put there order in and the chef makes the wrong meal! I didn't know this yet(cuz like I said i'm new), so i bring it out to them and they were like our meal comes with hashbrowns, not pancakes. I was like just a second i'll go check. They were right. so i take thier plates and go tell the chef and he was like "take the pancakes off and i will make the hashbrowns." I bring them their meals and told them the hashbrowns would be done in a little bit. So i go in there after a while and he forgot to make them! so i told him i need them asap. Well i went to check on them and the guy was like we are done with our meals and the eggs were cold, and we don't want to wait for the hashbrowns. We weren't impressed and he's like i want to talk to your manager. I was like ok. I went and got her, she gave the meals to them for free(no problem) and b****ed me out! HELLO it wasn't my fault, i don't cook the eggs or the one who made the wrong meal! Stupid! Well on the plus side of today, i made $23 in tips plus my $7/hour! So those of you who have to deal with this on a regular basis I feel so bad for you! |
Cook is always right at least at most places, cause it is easier to get another waitress than a new cook. I served for years, started out in a truck stop cafe at 16 while I was still in school, ended up in a high class dinner house. Made an average of $300 a week in tips for 25 hours a week (this was in the 70's), now I tend bar at concerts, events etc on a part time basis (I am an office manager full time) and can make an extra $500 to $1000 a month depending on event schedule. It does get easier. For a part time job there is nothing that gives the opportunity to make as much money in a short period of time. Hang in there, we all have bad days, nice people make up for those unhappy. |
well, I would have b****ed the cook out! He left you high and dry. sorry that you had a rough day at work. it will get better. |
It's always good to respect those that serve you and cook your food, whether at home or out. ;) I think it's just good manners to be nice and patient to waitresses, but I have to ask three times or more to get something, then I start to think badly of the service... |
My husband judges the service on how full his water glass is. If it goes down and doesn't get refilled, so does the tip. However, we are always polite no matter what kind of service we get. |
I do that too, lily's mom! Almost everywhere I go though, I have to hoard water (ie, steal Yoda's Mommy's or someone's glass) because they never fill it up fast enough for me! |
I have been waitressing for awhile and i understand that it isn't easy, but i also understand that when a water/waitress doesn't do things in their power to make my meal the best it could be, then I get upset. Simple things like checking on us, and keeping our glasses full will get you a big tip in my book. |
i'm a server too!! i wish everyone had to do it for a day!! i think alot more people would have respect for servers then! |

I know i make good money because i am actually the hostess so i make $7/hour. I bus the waitresses tables so they give me tips and when i serve (only on sundays) then i get even more tips plus the other servers cuz i bus their tables too. I know some waitresses who make like $4 something an hour + tips, and i get $7 so i am very happy. And being in college it really helps out. I started 3 weeks ago. I have worked about 9 days (usually 3 hours at a time) and made $71 in tips. |
I put myself through college and law school waiting tables. I think it is the best job for making a lot of money in a few hours for a young student. I started at Denny's working grave yard and then I moved to Plankhouse where I made just the bottom wage as a hostess but I got into the corporation ad quickly moved to CoCo's as a waitress and then the Peppermill where I worked for three years and made good money but in law school I worked at a five star Seafood Restaurant where the meals were expensive and so was the wine! I only had to work three 6 hour shift a week and I made good money. The trick is to have a good chef and a good busboy that you tip well!! A good hostess helps too to give you the good the people and watch the rotation so you are not overwhelmed with too many large parties at once!! |
