Anyone With Laminate floors?

What do you use to clean them? what kind of mop and what is safe around the pups?

cdawnfine 01-25-2009 01:36 PM

The Brand method just came out with a floor cleaner it is all natural, I bought it today

Patti 01-25-2009 01:38 PM

I just use vinegar and water and spray it on and use a microfiber mop to wipe it.

Valeria Morriso 01-25-2009 01:39 PM

We just put new laminate flooring in our master bedroom and hallway. I only use warm water and a cotton mop. I have a friend with hardwood and she puts a touch of dish soap or vinegar.

cleaning floors

I have found that the new steam cleaner [shark] is great.distilled water and laminated floors and the steam do great to together. A friend has all hard wood floors, her husband said the floors are clean. So for christmas her mother in law got her one.Well the husband was a mazed at the dirt on the clean floors.
No cemicles to hurt the puppies and babys.I pulled all my carpet out and put in hard wood floors, and my shark. You can get it at K MART/WALMART.
Hope this will help:thumbup:

i seen this and wanted it and then read some bad reviews on it so opted out. so far you like it?

margaritaville 01-25-2009 03:19 PM

The installer who put mine down told me to go to Lowes and get a Bruce floor cleaning kit. It has the microfiber mop and a spray cleaner. It seems to work very well.

LuvMySissy 01-25-2009 05:05 PM

I also have a Shark steam mop and love it. I just use regular tap water with it. We had an H2O first and that was totally terrible!!! The key to the Shark is to make sure to keep it pumped so there is lots of steam while you're mopping. It is virtually dry when you are done and leaves the floors very clean without any chemical at all!!!!

wishies 01-25-2009 07:48 PM

shark steam mop! & my swiffer vac :)

i really want a dyson for my apartment!

Belindtch 01-25-2009 09:28 PM

We use only vinager and water on our hardwoods. We wipe them dry with a towel. We have used the Bruce cleaner from Lowes. It leaves a coat that is dull on the floor. I had to use the vinegar and water to remove the film. Also, someone mentioned the swifter mop. I worry about the chemicals in it. Would it be safe to use around our furbabies?

chloesMama 01-25-2009 10:09 PM

We have a very dark blackish color floor so it has to be something that doesn't streak much or you can see every little line. I ordered the shark steamer after seeing my friends steamer in action :)...Right now I use shaklee cleaner ( just a little in a spray bottle) and a microfiber mop .

Sometimes I use a swiffer , but not a really wet swiffer just a damp one to touch up a sticky spot ...but I have now heard they can be dangerous to pets so I haven't bought anymore.

We have hardwood floors throughout and use vinegar and water too :) xxx xx

So do I :) I have had my floor for 8 years and it still looks new. I never use any soap will dull your floor.
Belive it or not but you can use fingernail polish remover for bad marks.

I'm copying and pasting a post that I made a while back when someone asked about this issue.....

Okay, when we first moved in to our house, before moving the furniture in I cleaned the entire house (all Armstrong laminate with tile in the bathrooms) with a Swiffer wetjet. The next morning I come in ready to move in furniture and the floors looked awful! All streaky and dull! So I went out and bought a Hoover Hard floor cleaner which worked fairly well for a year or so until it broke. The floors were really never as streak-free as I would have like though using that machine. Then finally someone told me about Bona X. Here's a link to one I found just so you can see it but I get mine from my local hardware store. They make hardwood AND laminate stuff.

BONA X Premium Stone, Tile, & Laminate Floor Care System - BONA X Hard Surface Floor Care products.

I've had the same stick thing with microfiber pad for at least a year and it is still in perfect shape - wash the pad in the washing machine (with no fabric softener) and throw it in the dryer. The spray goes a long way too.

Just last week my mom emailed me and said that two ladies she works with were talking about how they couldn't get their laminate floors streak-free so she asked me what I use and passed it on to them. One of them called her office phone to leave her a message at 10:00 that night SO excited because she had gone out and bought it that evening and was so impressed. The true test for me is that one side of my house is almost all windows and in the afternoon the floor is very much on display..... not a streak to be seen!

I hope everyone with laminate floors will find this product as wonderful as I have!

Seems there are other products out there that are very similar but I think the most important part is the microfiber pad!

Yorkiekids 01-26-2009 08:36 AM

I use PineSol and water so that there clean and sanatized.

Jenn218 01-26-2009 08:48 AM

How about steam mops? I think the Shark Steam Mop, you can use on laminate floors?!

Bonnie's Mom 01-26-2009 11:50 AM

I use a mixture of vinegar and water, and if there has been an accident I will add a little odorban to it.

I love love love my laminate floors! I have them all over on the first floor, and if I could manage to win the lottery (although I understand you must actually play to win  ) I would put it in all my bedrooms upstairs too!

As far as I know, yes. But the floor doesn't stay wet because the microfiber pad dries it right away. I guess the only issue would be Tatum walking on it and then licking her feet but she doesn't lick to I'm not concerned about it.

I use my Shark several times a week because you sure can see all the dust and dirt from the outside on wood floors - and there's a lot of that when you live in the country! My cleaning lady only spot cleans with the Bona X every other week when she comes. And that's just mostly in areas that the sun shines on and you see all the streaks and footprints. So that would mostly be in the kitchen, breakfast room and part of the living room.

mizzwanned 01-29-2009 01:47 PM

We got Pergo laminate floors. We just use a wet cloth or something like the swiffer mop. Also we bought a special cleaner from the store

TatumsMom 01-29-2009 01:52 PM

The trick - regardless of which cleanser you use - is to use microfiber pads. That's what you need to discourage the streaking.

this is true.
I use the swiffer wet jet solution for wood floors. But sometimes when it drys I don't see any streaks. my would floor is oak colored so it isn't very dark that may be why.
but the microfiber pads do work good. :)
