Show Us Your Winter Yard 4 Attachment(s) It's amazing how the "Winter Yard" takes on it's own life. Not just the snow blown paths for the dogs or the "yellow" snow or the mouse nests under the drifts by the yard lights that make a strange glow at night. The Rhododendron: you can tell how cold it is by how tight it curls its leaves. At near 0* they are rolled tight as can be. A few months from now it will "wow" us with its beauty. The Hydrangeas: I know they're under there, somewhere. They will compete with Rhode for attention but will be beautiful until it snows next winter. What's happening in your "Winter Yard". |
3 Attachment(s) Here's some shots of my yard, taken from my second story window. hugs, cArmen in nj |

Isn't it just beautiful! So pretty :) |
well at least you have the snow to cover it. my yard is so ugly with the dead grass and flowers everywhere. and to top it off we had 2 weeks of warm weather after Christmas well it made the gerber daisies start blooming and the day lilies.......then here comes the freeze and they are dead again:eek: So no pictures of my ugly yard til Spring when it's pretty....lol I like the yards with snow in them.......but wouldn't want to live there either....:D |
4 Attachment(s) Not much changes in my yard. The apple trees go bare and the grass doesn't grow much and turns a bit yellow. We just planted two cherry trees. One yields fruit and the other just flowers. I'm going to plant some weeping cherry trees I think. They are so pretty. A friend who lives in NY just sent me this beautiful snow picture in her yard. |

1 Attachment(s) We got snow on Dec 12th! It had been 4 yrs before last time it snowed. We live on the southeast side of town and were the only part of town that got it. We just don't get snow very often in Houston. So it's a treat when we get it! |

I didn't get out of the house for a few days! We've had horrid weather since about 2 weeks before Christmas and below 0 temps. Our Walmart, Target and a mall nearby all closed because of up to 6 foot drifts on their roofs. Walmart had some of those skylights break through. We don't normally have to shovel snow off our roofs, but this year we did! My hubby and grandson just finished shoveling our roof of snow and then we got another foot! Good grief! I'm getting out now just fine...just have much less road to drive on than what we are used to! |
Picture my "winter" yard.(I still dont knw how to post a picture) The bermuda grass is now a tan color. All of my orange trees still have lush leaves and ripe oranges all over them!! My roses are blooming. The cottonwood trees are beautiful yellow and are loosing their leaves. The mesquite trees still have leaves on them. My eucaliptus (sp) trees are beautiful and have full silvery green foliage. The rosemary are full of light blue blooms and covered with bees. My "winter" garden is in full bloom: marigolds, lobelias, viola, johnny jump ups, panzys and petunias. I am getting my garden ready now. Its been a wonderful winter this year. The highs have been constantly in the 70's and the lows around the high 30's and low 40's. I think the coldest day we have had this year was around 50 degrees. Of course you all will be laughing at me in July!! |
