I agree. :thumbup: No matter what your party affiliation or how you feel about the President elect , this will be a historic day.

I wouldn't miss it and wont let my kids miss it either.This will be a part of our nations history that will live on forever.

I'm so excited, this is going to be a wonderful day! I couldn't sleep at all last night, counting the hours until the swearing in. I got up real early and watched Wall Street ringing the opening bell, from Washington DC. Hundreds of school kids gathered around and rang little bells, chanting Obama. It brought tears to my eyes to see that. I can't believe how many people are in the National mall. This is an historic day. I'm so thankful to be able to be part of it, even if its from my living room. Enjoy this historic day everyone!

I think if he's the "god" everyone thinks he is, he would've been sworn in and went strait to work fixing this economy. Give up all the parties and encourage all the rich movie stars to kick in and go to the food pantries in the USA and give what they are donating for this event, to the starving people of America. People are loosing their jobs left and right and all we care about today is the inauguration. History in the making, while people in America are wondering where their next meal is coming from, or how their going to keep their kids warm tonight or worring about if they are going to have a roof over their heads tomorrow. By all means lets all watch and praise our new leader, who's going to work miracles in the upcoming months... Sorry to vent, but this is what I see... alot of money wasted....JMO

I have no interest in watching it, which is just as well because I'm working. I'll catch highlights later if I have a chance.
(In all honestly, I don't think I've ever watched an inauguration...they're going to be sworn in regardless to if I watch or not. :p IMO, it's not more historical than any other president being sworn in and if it turns out to be, they'll sell it on DVD eventually.)

I agree...I'm not sure of the exact figures, but I heard he is spending around $100 million on the inauguration and the parties. Also, Bush only spent around $40 million on his... Our economy was in much better shape then!

I agree with you. This is a good day in history and all, but in our times right now, they are spending a RIDICULOUS amount of money on this. They are spending about 150 million on this when the other presidents only got a max of maybe 40 million. I've been thinking this for a couple days, but I just didn't want to start anything. I think Obama is great and I hope he does some good things, but I agree, people are losing homes and jobs left and right (my family is one of those cases and I'm trying to figure out how to buy food) and they are spending all that money that could go to the american people that really need it and could use it.

the thing that bothers me is the media made a big deal out of what Bush spent but they arent saying a thing about what Obama is spending

Lets not forget that the funding for all of this came from Obama's private donors who donated to the campaign, not to the needy. I'm not saying it isn't in excess, it is, but so is the meaning and history behind this election. If it were the public's tax dollars, I'm sure I would feel more angst about it. I think we should reserve this discussion for tomorrow, and be proud Americans today.

$150 million. I read it on yahoo news and it was all over the radio this morning.

Oh well if it comes from private donors then I dont have a problem with it. But I bet Bush's was too and the media treated him unfairly

It doesn't matter where it came from. He could've ask them to donate to needy Americans and bybass all the hoopla....Yes it's history, but it all coul've been done more economical out of respect for all the people that are loosing their homes and worring about where their going to get their next meal or warmth... It is RESPECT for the American people...

This economy is in a downward spiral and people are spending 150 million on a party. Do the math - if they gave families $300 for groceries to feed their families for a month instead, that would feed almost 500,000 american families.

Not all of us are PROUD today. I really think its funny (not in a ha-ha sorta way) that now everyone that didn't vote for Bush, and voted for Obama are now saying that we all need to come together and be proud and yada-yada-yada, but when their guy wasn't in office all they did was complain, and now they want to judge us for complaining and tell us to "celebrate". Sorry, I am more in a mourning for my country sort of mood today. I don't feel that this is a good thing one bit at all, and I am allowed to feel that way. I don't have to celebrate or be proud, and I don't have to sit back and be quiet about it. I don't think that the dems were celebrating when Bush was elected. It's a two way street guys. I only have one savior, and it sure isn't him.

I'm pretty sure that most of the money for the inaugural festivites is donated. I am in the mood for a huge national party celebrating Obama's election, and from the looks of things, I'm not the only one!!

Did anyone see the Obamas arriving at the White House and Michelle Obama had a gift for Mrs. Bush. It was very sweet. I'm dying to know what's in there!

I voted for Obama and it is his day. He worked hard and gained the votes from many Americans. When Bush was elected I wasn't too pleased. I just sat back. Bush did protect us from more attacks and I appreciate that. Give Obama a chance.

Nor am I proud to be an american!! I am so disgusted that the first thing on his agenda is to make abortion legal, and guess who's going to be paying for them....US!!!! Who cares about the millions of people losing their jobs:(

This is a sad day in history, there is nothing worth celebrating!!

I heard it was a pen and journal. Supposedly Mrs. Bush is writing a memoir.

It was a nice gesture from Mrs.Obama. They confirmed it was a pen and journal. The Bush girls left gifts for the Obama girls too. They also gave them a tour of the White House. So sweet.

It is amazing to see all these former Presidents on Tv.
