Text books! I know I probably said this before, but what is the deal with $175 text books? The prices are just soooo ridiculous! I have 7 classes left and just cannot wait to finish. College is too expensive! I am taking 3 classes and my books for that is almost $600. Is that not ridiculous?  |
textbooks Can you buy your textbooks from textbookrus or amazon? my college won't give you the isbn numbers of the books til the day your to pay for them. But if you ask around. you can find out what they are. Some classes you can even use one series older of the textbook then what the classes are currently using. Right now I've got three textbooks that if I were to buy at the school book store I'd be paying over $450. but looking online and getting one textbook book older I've only paid out $75. and could pocket the extra. ty |
ugh - i hear you!!! i graduated in 1998 - over 10 years ago - and i remember spending up to $1000 per SEMESTER in books for my classes...and i could never sell them back because my concentration was notorious for changing books every semester or year....so that also meant i could never buy used ones! i remember for my math classes, we would have to get these small paper bound "books" from the flipping copy shop about the size of a composition notebook but not nearly as nice and those would be like $60....robbery i tell you! |
Oh girl- you will be sooooo happy when your done!!! I remember I purchased brand new text books from the store at school the first 4 semesters, then someone told me I could get them on Amazon for SOOOO much less! That's what I did for the rest of college, wish I would have know about that sooner! You are so close to being done! Yay for you!!!! |
I checked amazon... 2 of my books are brand new. One of them is brand new for this semester... the other one came out last year and the used price is only about $30 less than the new price, still over $120. The new one for $175 I found a copy for $135. That was the cheapest I found so far. Yeah the school bookstore does not post the ISBN numbers either, I try to read the details and match edition, publisher, author and title as much as possible. haven't been wrong yet *knocks on wood* :) |
Try half.com too. Even if your school isn't buying it back, another school might. I heard the professors get commission on the books (or royalties if they helped write it) Ours would bundle the syllabus so you HAD to buy it new or you wouldn't get the class notes. |
One of my classmates directed me to BIGWORDS.com | Buy Textbooks | Sell Textbooks | Used College Textbooks | New College Textbooks | Textbook Price Comparison | Cheap Textbooks | Cheapest Textbooks | Compare Textbook Prices | Textbook Buyback | Textbook Price Bot | New and Used Music | last semester and it has been a life saver!:D They don't sell textbooks directly on that site but you enter in your isbn numbers or book title and then it will search all of the top websites like half.com, amazon, etc for you and then show you how much the book is on each site. I have started buying most of mine from Chegg.com - Cheap Textbook Rentals. Search for Used Textbooks and Rent College Textbooks., it's a textbook rental site. You pay a much lower price for the book and then when the semester is over, you mail the book back to them. I used bigwords.com to buy 5 books yesterday and saved almost $300! |
Your not kidding. My daughter is waiting for her deferment to come for her books, but she needed the math, and it was 145. I spent almost 700 on her books last semester. Even when you buy the used ones there expensive. |
try the international editions, they are the exacty copy of the textbook just on cheaper paper and no color (sometimes) but are half the price! |
Text books are such a ripoff!!! My dtr just graduated in December, Thank God!! It is hard enough to come up with the tuition not to mention the price of books. |
Borrow them from the library. EZBorrow is great. ETA: Also you can ask if you can use the previous edition. Often they will have changed very little. A lot of times my professors will give out a copy of the newest book's table of contents and you can just match the readings in your older book. Older editions are much cheaper. |
i used to buy most of my books from Half.com |
My chem book from last semester was 250! And I sold it back today and got a whopping 40 bucks for it... My A&P class book this semester is the same price if I have to buy it new...If I get lucky and find one used again it will be just under 200.. Isn't it ridiculous?!? You can try looking on like craigs list, there are a lot of people selling books on there. I've yet to find any that I needed but you might luck out and get some you need :) |
