Well, I don't think it was a bat or a bird because I definitely heard scampering noise. I like the idea of not feeding it Koran. No more food out until I get the trap set up. I can tell you, I don't feel good about going down there to place the trap - gives me the creeps :( -- glad I have enough clean clothes in my closet! But Tiffany's story about more than one in her basement makes me think I need to set up the trap more than once. I think more than anything I'm scared to see what it is & I'm scared about setting it free - don't want to get bit or something |
Oh, dont be afraid. First of all, make noise when you are going down there. It/ they are probably more scared of you then you of them. DONT BRING THE DOG OR CAT! As far as letting it go, cover it with something, old blanket or whatever, and pick up the cage. It will help if you have an IPOD or something so little sounds dont freak you out and you drop the cage. Take it straight to the trunk and drive. Drive MILES squirrels and skunks can come back if you only go a mile or so. We caught a squirrel in one and that stupid thing would back up and charge the cage until his little head was bleeding! He just wanted OUT. When you go to release BELIEVE ME that thing, no matter what it is wants to run, Its not going to stop and its not going to stick around to bite you, its is going to run. Skunks wont even spray, they will just run like heck. I PROMISE! Do you have a male neighbor that you can have come check the basement for you? If there is something living down there its going to be behind washer/dryer, hot water heater, whatever it can find for protection. Its not going to be kicked back in the lazy boy drinking a beer and watching ESPN! LOL You just need to find it. They will also get into the pipes/duct work things like that for warmth. Even insulation if its available. But you do need to get it out before it does any damage and you need to find out HOW they are getting in or you will be going thru this again. |
Yikes! If I knew there was something in my basement...that didn't belong there, I'd not go down. I'd be too chicken! I can't wait to hear what you catch...and whatever it is, I hope you catch it soon! Good luck!!! |
What if it's the boogeyman? |

Since they made all the homeless people move out of their "make-shift" homes, perhaps they are finding others? (Yes, for those of you who don't get Des Moines news, it really happened) |
I haven't been posting on this thread but I've been following it like a soap opera.:D I'm dying to know what's in your basement- any updates? |

Me too!! I keep checking. Hope we get an update. |
Well, there has been no signs of it or sounds  I just don't know what to think. Roxy stopped barking, whining & guarding the basement door. I can't imagine if something was down there that it would have left this week. On Monday we had another 4 1/2 inches of snow & then another 2 1/2 last night. It is currently 10-below with a windchill lower than that  and we are to drop to 17- or 18-below tonight. With windchills like 35- to 45-below by morning. So now I'm thinking whatever it was is somewhere dead in my basement & I haven't found it yet :( -- I'll keep you updated - but I'm just confused |
I've been so curious as to what's in your basement! With the cold temps, I doubt anything would go back outside. I have no clue, but will keep checking back for updates. |

Rest assured - once the tundra thaws you will SMELL something before you see it....if it is dead. |
