I have birds and a cat. The cat doesn't pay much attentiion to the birds at all. Of course I don't leave the birds out unattended with the animals around, but it's worked well around here. My cat is 4 and my birds are 10 and over.

My cats are 9 and 7. My one sits on my couch and stalks the birds at my bird feeding on my window. They both hunt mice too. I'm just wondering if they will leave the cage alone.

Any suggestions? I'm looking to get a cockatiel. I plan to put the cats in a bedroom when I let my new little guy out (once i find him:)) but would love some suggestions!!!

I would be leary with cats and a bird...
my fiances family ran a breeding bird aviary for a while.
I had 2 ferrets with JuJu and a cockatiel at that time, and the ferrets didnt much bother either of the birds, but they were smaller. not to sound mean or anything, because I am not the know-all about birds and cats, but I would not recomend getting a tiel when you have older cats. the cats are gonna be territorial. if you had the bird first I dont think it would be a problem. Or for the matter if you have a completely seperate room for the bird where the cats wont be able to get to it then I think you would be fine. :) good luck! and if you have any more questions feel free to ask!!! :)

I have a African Grey and a wild weaver.The weaver stays in his cage all the time and if I let the African Grey out then I make sure that the Cat is out.He still catches mice and wild birds so seems to get his joy there.Did I mention I have rats too.The trick is to be vigilant and not take chances.Cats have the instinct to hunt.I also lock my cages with a clip so they can't escape.My cat used to look at the cage until the bird bit him,If they get bitten they seem to stay away and stick to the outside birds.Also if you hang the cage on one of those stands the cat should not be able to get to the bird,make sure the stand is secure and can't be knocked over.

Thanks :) I plan to buy a stand, any ideas how to secure it??? Thats what I was wondering...I can keep them seperate when I let the bird out...but when he is in his cage, the cats will be out...so I want to make sure they can't hurt the bird while he is in his cage.

I know ppl have birds and cats all over, but just curious how its done safely. If I get a bird, I need him to be part of the family and not just in his cage all the time, so I'm hoping to get it all figured out! :p:p:p Hoping! LOL

i have 2 cockatiels and a canary, and the cat had to be taught to stay away from them, but now she barely looks at them so it works out well. oh and whenever i take them out i make sure the cats locked in a bedroom or something just in case

I used to have a lovebird named Sam and I have 2 cats. At first the cats were excited and stalked him like prey. After a while they all got used to each other and Sam was just another family member. In fact, Sam didn't have any fear of the cats and would put them in their place. Sometime he would eat with the cats. :rolleyes::D They definitely learned to respect Sam.

I think the cat's need to be watched & trained.
I can have My guinea pigs around the cat's They don't even Care Anymore.

HAHAHA that picture is SO funny !!!! :D I have a bird with the dogs but we don't have a cat. So I am not sure how to get them used to each other so they can co-exist. Good luck :D Birds are super fun. I have never had one until the one we have now and he is really cool!!! obnoxious, but cool LOL

I don't have cats but my friend had one and i would go to her house with my bird all the time and he never paid attention to it.
