Changing Web Hosts - can someone help me? I currently have my website through FreeWebs...I purchased my domain name through them. But everytime I want to update my website, it seems I can never get on to do it. I've been trying for a week to add my new pups and can never get on...so I'm looking into changing. How do I do this??? I bought my domain name. What other web hosts are there out there? is it easy to change? I'm not an expert on this at all, so any help would be VERY appreciated!!!! Thanks so much!!! |
There are many web hosts out there. You should back up your website files to your hard drive before you make the switch. You sign up with a new host, tell them what your URL is and they should do the programming for you. If not, they will tell you how. They will give you the name server info. You go to your old host, enter the name server info and the switch should happen. If your site is registered at Network Solutions, you enter the name server info there. I would recommend GoDaddy.com as a host. It is cheap and the support is good. Their website is a bit intimidating at first but like I say, the support is good. As far as free hosting sights go, I can't make any recommendations. I do a lot of website design and have changed hosts several times, I'm just sharing what I know. Good luck! |

Wouldn't you I was able to get on after I wrote this post  they must have senced it :p I was at least able to get my babies on like I wanted to. But I'm still looking. I'll look at go daddy and see. THANK YOU! |
I feel like a schmuck for posting this, but we run a small fine braided leather business (mostly mail order) and we use 1and1. The thing I feel schmuck-ish about is that I'm going to tell you that if you use this link I think we supposedly get some kind of discount for referring you (never had anyone try it before)... but honestly, even if there were no referral deal, I swear it wouldn't matter - I still really love 1and1. The place is easy to navigate, doesn't force you into displaying any ads, gives you a second free domain just for kicks (if I remember right), is really really cheap (like 4 or 5 bucks a month or less I think), gives you tons of space (more than we'll EVER use and we are big on pictures), and is totally reliable. We couldn't operate our business if it weren't totally reliable and easy enough to update and figure out - we're not technological geniuses, lol. Check it out if you want... we like it. :-) Lauren & Nikko |
Breny, I use the premium services at Freewebs so no ads. The only time I ever had a problem was when I had a worm get in thru McAfee security. |
