How was everyone's classes?
 
so how was everyones classes today? mine was horrible :( i had to drive to main campus, the parking was TERRIBLE, and the professor kept us teh entire time, and the BOOK is $80 (i usually get mine online for cheap but this one was unavailable), AND the profesor is chinese and you can barely understand what he says (and this is an in depth look and english grammar comprehension :confused: ) OMG i hope my classes on tues and wend are better...... because of my horrendous schedule on tuesday toby is going to go visit gramma for a while.... at least the rest of my calsses are closer than main campus.... so, how was everyone elses?

I feel your pain...I was prepared for a pretty easy semester cause i am getting into my classes for my major but I was WRONG...I have Art Education and that sounds really easy....teaching art to kids....but no the teacher is telling us within the first five minutes that if we have a big load we should drop that class cause its hard and anything bad we have heard about it is pry true...my old roommate is in there with me so we are going to try to get through it together...AHHH!!! and on top of that I have to have so many field hours (in the classroom a week) I am going to be slammed this semester!!!! Only one class tommorow though!! Yea!! Should be easy!!!! but who knows....Sorry bout your bad day orinskye...textbooks SUCK!!!! and so do non english speaking proffesors :)

If it makes you feel better, when I went to one of my classes today I went to the wrong class. I ended up in History of Ballet instead of a sociology course! I never did find the right room until I got home and got online. I guess the room changed and I never caught on. But did I look like a moron walking out of the class of dancers (I'm a bigger girl) :( . Other than that my workload is insane and my attendence policies are brutal. And it was hot, humid, and rainy.

I'm sorry that you had a bad day though. I cracked up when you said the thing about your professor. That's one of those random ironic things that makes you so mad, but you kinda have to laugh. I had a non-US citizen teach my American Federal Government class...

lol........... funny ballet story..... no worries though im a "bigger girl" too :) hooray for us.....
and yes, non english speaking professors are interesting, especially when they use the term Abso f*ing lutly and Fan Fing tastic to illustrate "inex's".. he was kewl with my problem of not being able to get there on time though, i hope he stays that sympathetic

Haha, i was gonna ask how classes went when i got on but you beat me too it :p I only had one class today, college algebra. So far so good. the teacher said "those numbers keep on truckin" in like everyother sentence. We went over stuff that i learned how to do in 7th and 8th grade! he was like this might be hard for some of you.... yeah right!! it was all about linear equations and plotting points on a graph! He told us that they might not buy our books back because they have been using the same edition for like 4 years. so i might get stuck with a $70 used math book that will be of no use :mad:

Well I had lectures in most of my classes. YUCK. Usually the first day is about getting the syllabus and then you leave but not for me. Most of my classes are lecture and very very boring. I have U.S. Politics and Geography. My Sociology class was interestingly weird yesterday too, the teacher started talking about sex and why aren't we having sex right now on the tables of the classroom that kinda caught everyone off guard. lol. It should be interesting. I have to go buy my books today and yes I need everybook for my classes so that is going to be very expensive. I will let you know how much that is later. Good thing is that I dont have class tuesdays and thursdays becuase I go all day on mon, wed, and friday.

Last semester I bought an accounting book used for $120 and they changed editions so now I am stuck with a stupid book I will never use it is managerial accounting.

Isn't that awful?! I don't know how many times that happened to me! I had a few classes that needed workbooks one semester. I never wrote in the workbooks because I wanted to return them and get as much money as possible. Stupid me didn't realize they don't even buy back workbooks! So that was a good $30 down the drain for each class. :mad: I hate textbook return policies and the insanely fast speed at which they publish new editions. I somewhere heard the other day that the price of textbooks has increased at a greater rate than that of inflation- it's disgusting.

on textbooks you guys know you dont HAVE to buy from the college bookstores right???? if you go to amazon or barnesandnoble or other used textbook places you can sometimes get tehm for really really cheap... i got my math book last year for $3.... (they were selling it for around 100 at the college bookstore) the only drawback is that you dont have youre books for the first week of classes, its really teh way to go. unfortunatly my english gramaar book i couldnt get that cheap :( but that is the ONLY book i have had a problem not being able to get online (for cheap) in teh last couple years

That is a good idea...and I find out in advance what books we need because we can preorder online...I will have to try that next semester...Books are breaking the bank $$$$$$!!!!!

Yea mine too. I just never did that because I would not have them for a few weeks after class started. I just bought mine and they were almost $400. Where do you buy them at?

when do you have sociology?? I'm brett and i are both taking that too!! So far the only class i think i'm gonna struggle with is CHEM b/c it makes no sense to me...plus i dont really care about elements and compounds..so that probably wont help me out.. I'm taking an online class..so we will see how that works out..and my microbiologly class doesnt seem that bad..just alot of material to learn!!!

you go to amazon and type in the book you want, on the right hand side they usually show "used and new from:......" and then you just buy a used one from a private seller, they do charge shipping, but usually the books are WAY cheaper and on top of that you can sell them back to the college and actually MAKE money on them.... tehy dont take THAT long to get here.... i baought a book through a private seller yesterday and i got a conformation that the shipped it today it should arrive in three days or so..... so you dont have to wait to long... if you want, pm me and give me youre book list i will find the deals on used books :)

Well I have now sat through all my classes and I have to say that so far it looks like I might be okay...my MWF classes are fun and mostly computer based, so I am happy about that but my TTR classes are harder and both require a lot more work, but at least they are in my major!!

I think I have you all...I had to pay $212 for ONE book alone, it is a computer based book, with excel and acess software and instruction booklet...you can't buy it used at all!! I was blown away with I heard about it....ARRRGGG!!!
I think the bookstores are just out to make money and scam us...how fair is that...

I have it at 3:30 MWF...it's not intro it's Sociology of Gender. What is your major Kelly??? I paid almost $500 for my books! I need to start buying them online, it's so much cheaper. But I hate it when people highlight in the books. I've decided that people have no idea what they are doing when they highlight things, and it's a little distracting!

My classes are going to be a lot of work. All of them have pop quizzes, multiple papers, and more tests than just a midterm and final. I think I'm going to have a nervous breakdown this semester.

i see.. my major..hmmm that's a funny question..it's either...radiology,dental hygiene, nursing, or sonogramy...i'm applying for dental in dec..but if i dont get accepted i'm going to apply for all of them next fall..haha so we'll see what i end up with!! Brett saw you today by gould(sp?)hall..but he was on the bus so he couldnt say hi! I paid almost $500 for my books too!!!

i already bought my books for this semester. But next semester I might take you up on that offer. Thanks so much for offering, I appreciate it.

That's funny. I was probably complaining about having to be up so early! Does he commute and then ride the bus from Lloyd Noble? I thought about doing that but it ends up being just as expensive! I've been keeping an eye out for him! My sister got a nursing degree from OCCC and she works at Children's now and LOVES it.

ok so my total for books this semester is: 63 for one class+ 27 for another+ + 12 for another= 102 dollars...... i am taking some lit classes that use regular novels so i can get those at the used bookstore in town for $20 so my total for the semester is probably going to be around $122
It is still more than i usually spend :(

ok......... so i just got off teh phone with teh bookstore to see what the isbn numbers were for my books i needed to buy (to make sure i got the right ones) and the lady tells me that they are not allowed to give out isbn numbers over the phone :confused: that is a load of c-r-a-p, I calmly explained to her that the books were expensive and i needed the isbn numbers to look for them online and she refused to give them to me. She told me to come up to the bookstore to see what the numbers were (the bookstore is an hour away and i am not supposed to drive longer than 30 minuits at a time)! grrrrr she made me mad
LMAO so i decided to ask her what the book looked like, and she is all like "its got colors on teh front"
i said thank you and hung up..... what a jerk, i found the right book afterall but how aggravating

How obnoxious! That person had no reason to treat you that way. I promise they will still get their pay whether you buy your 3 books there or not! I hate it when people are rude for no reason. It's definately not wrong to try to save money where ever you can considering how expensive college is!

yeah he commutes for LN...My mom works at childrens too..well for medi flight..she's flight nurse..

here's my books.... chem 85 + lab manual 30 + Sociology 115 + Nutrition 140 + Microbio 65 + lab maual 7 = WAY TO MUCH MONEY!
