So mad! I have an account at Banco Popular cause my mom made me open one, i really dont like the bank but w.e. I used to be at citibank but closed it there cause they would charge me random charges and didnt like that. Anyway i have a debit card there(at B.P.) and had a certain amount of money on it. Well the other day i had about $143 left on it and bought a $4 metrocard and $17 hair product. That leaves $122 on my card. That same day i made a charge of $144 to buy boots. Now at that time i thought i had enough on the card to buy the boots but that night i checked and realized i went over so i knew i had to pay the $30 overdraft fee cause of the boots. Anyway i checked today online and realized they charged me 3 overdraft fees of $30 each, so $90 in total, plus the extra for the boots that i didnt have, so now i owe $112. I feel robbed! They should have only charged me one overdraft fee, am i right? I made the first 2 charges while i still had enough money on my card, the only charge i made was the last one that i went over. But they are charging me for the other 2 as well. Then when i checked online at my history they made it seem like i bought the boots first and then made the other 2 charges...but i bought the boots last! I even have the receipts. Am i wrong? Do they charge me 3x cause i bought everything that same day? I feel cheated and now have to pay triple what i owe! |
Oh man, that sux! I'd def. call them up and ask them what they can do for you. |
Wow... that sounds like a s**tty deal! :( You should go into the bank and speak to a manager and just pay the minimum fee....demand it! Those fees that they are charging you are almost as much as the boots! Go in and stand strong! Good luck! |
Hahaha...I can't say s**t on here? Dear me! |
I'm not really sure it matters what it says on your receipt - it's which ever one charged your account first. If it was the boots then they charged you for them because it was over the amount you had in there to begin with. Then the other 2 charges were because by then you really didn't have anything in there. Sorry... |
It probably depends on which company processes the charges first not by the order of when you made each purchase. Tammy |
I know our bank seems to hold out on charges (like hold them back) and checks and try to wait 'til the account gets really low. Thank God I keep up with EVERY SINGLE PURCHASE in a transaction register. I HATE banks. |

It depends on which paymeny cleared your account first--they clear according to when the establishment closes out that batch of transactions and submits them for payment, not according to the order in which you made the purchases. If the payment for the boots cleared first, then it wouldn't have been enough to cover that payment OR the two other purchases that cleared afterwards, resulting in 3 insufficient funds charges. |

Definately ask them to reverse the fees this one time. My dtr did that and we went there and they were very nice and reversed the charges. Good luck |

Im sorry this happend to you but let me explain how it was not a bank error. OKay yes you purchased the metro card and the hair product before the boots. However, if they were pending transactions and had not COMPLETELY cleared the account. So then you purchased the boots that were 144.00 (your account had 143.00) So if the boots cleared be fore the two small transactions, you would have been charged by the bank the correct amount. Also it depends on when the company's batch out their card purchases. Some companies batch them daily, some batch them weekly, some batch even MONTHLY... which sucks but thats how it gets you. Sorry to disappoint you with this information. The only reason i know this is i work for a bank and i see how these clear. Its sad but thats how it works. |

I used to work in banking, and at the bank I worked at, it was their policy to process the largest item first. So the first item would have overdrawn you, and then the other two items also. Most branch managers have an "overdraft limit" that they are allowed to refund each month. Your best bet would be to wait until Monday (a new month) and go in and plead your case. They may refund at least 1 of the fees, if not all if this is your first time going in to overdraft. Also, usually if you apply for an overdraft line of credit they will refund the fees for you as a courtesy. |
